QuBIT IX @ High Tech [DART III Mirror] - Feb. 11, 2023

Post by ranviman »

High Technology High School is pleased to announce our ninth annual Quiz Bowl Invitational Tournament (QuBIT IX), which will take place on Saturday, February 11th, 2023. We'll be mirroring DART III, a HS Hard housewrite written by the Detroit Country Day School team. I, Ranvith Adulla, will be the Tournament Director of QuBIT IX.

QuBIT IX will be held at High Technology High School, 765 Newman Springs Road, Lincroft, NJ 07738. Free parking will be available in our lot, as well as in Brookdale Community College, parking lot #4. There are multiple high schools in New Jersey called “High Tech High School”; please ensure that you are heading to the correct school before departing.

On the day of the tournament, teams can sign in from 8:00 AM to 8:30 AM. After the opening meeting, we're aiming to start games at 9 AM.

Registration
Registration for this tournament will only be accepted through this form, which will be kept open until 11:59 PM on February 5th.

Note: Our school district requests a certificate of insurance from each participating school before the day of the competition. This no-cost certificate of insurance is requested through your school business office, asking your insurance company to issue a certificate indicating that the students are covered by insurance when participating at QuBIT. If you want additional information about this certificate, please contact us at the email listed below.

Question Set
We will be mirroring DART III, a HS hard level housewrite produced by Detroit Country Day School. More information can be found here.

Format
The field has a soft cap of 24 teams, which will expand if there is sufficient interest.

All teams will be guaranteed a minimum of ten games, five being preliminary rounds.

This tournament will use the ACF ruleset with the optional powermark addendum.

Fee Structure
$90 for each team. (No more than six players per team; maximum of four players playing at a time.)
-$5 per working buzzer system, no limit.
-$15 per experienced moderator, no limit. (Moderators do not need to bring their own laptops.)
There is a minimum fee of $60 per team.

Payment
Make all checks out to “High Tech Student Activities Account.” Invoices are available upon request. We request that you pay on the day of the tournament. If this is against your school’s policy, please contact us so we can give you further instructions. We prefer paying by check, but cash is also allowed. No other forms of payment will be accepted.

Any team canceling after 11:59 PM on Sunday, February 5th will be expected to pay full tournament dues.

Food
For lunch, we would prefer if teams stayed on-site in order to prevent delays, but we will also distribute a list of local eateries. We will be offering pizza for sale at lunch at $20 a pie. Water bottles will be sold for $1 each. If you would like to order, please indicate the number of pies on the registration Google form.

Misconduct
We are committed to keeping quizbowl a safe place for all participants. Cheating, harassment, and other forms of misconduct will not be tolerated and we reserve the right to remove any player or team. Players will be expected to abide by the PACE Code of Conduct. If you would like to report any misconduct by players, staffers, or others, please contact us or fill out the Misconduct Reporting Form.

If you have any additional questions about this tournament, please email us at [email protected] or reply to this thread.

We look forward to seeing you in February!
