Triton Winter X @ UCSD [1-28-23]

Post by YusAm »

The UCSD Quizbowl team is excited to announce Triton Winter X, to be hosted on our campus on Saturday, January 28th, 2023.

This tournament will have a varsity and novice/junior varsity division. The varsity division will mirror NAQT's IS-219 set, and the novice division will mirror the MAKEMAKE novice set.

Eligibility:
This tournament is restricted to high school students only. Any high school student can participate in the varsity division.
In the novice division, all members of a team must meet the all following requirements:
  • not scored 50+ ppg at a junior varsity/novice tournament
  • not scored 30+ ppg at a varsity/HS-regs tournament
  • not scored 10+ ppg at a national-level high school tournament (HSNCT, PACE NSC, IQBT NASAT, etc.)
You can check statistics for eligibility here.

Pricing:
New schools (schools that did not play a tournament in the 2021-2022 season) will pay a flat fee of $30 per team.
Returning schools will pay a base fee of $60 per team, with potential discounts.
There is a minimum fee of $30, after discounts, for each new or returning team.

Teams of more than six players will not be accepted for either new or returning teams.

Discounts:
-$5 per working buzzer system (must accommodate at least eight players)
-$10 per experienced moderator that provides their own laptop or tablet capable of editing Google Sheets
-$5 per 50 miles traveled per team (one-way)

Early Registration Discounts:
-$10 per team that registers on or before January 14th.

How to Register:
We are using the NAQT registration system for both the varsity and novice divisions. To register, use this link. Registration opens on Monday, December 19th, and you must have an NAQT account to register. More logistics information (including information about payment methods) will be provided in the week preceding the tournament to teams that have registered. If you have any questions, email us at [email protected].

Registration Limits:
We will implement a soft field cap of 10 teams per division until we can confirm rooms and staffers. Returning schools will be limited to registering three teams each. Any additional teams they would like to register will be placed onto a waitlist. If reserved spots are not filled one week prior to the tournament or we can expand the field cap, teams on the waitlist will be let off.
