KRAMIG (1/29, Online, KICKOFF)
I am pleased to announce KRAMIG (the KICKOFF Regular-season Academic Mirror In Great-northeast), an online high school tournament on Sunday, January 29th, 2023. We will be using the high school regular difficulty set KICKOFF for the tournament.
I, Andrew Gao (Chenery), with Cindy Gao (Belmont) will be directing this event.
This tournament is intended to function as a high school mirror with geographical restrictions. Only teams from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, DC, Virginia, and Maryland will be immediately accepted into the field (the tournament opened to DMV teams on 1/15). Teams outside these states should request an exemption to play the tournament by emailing me at [email protected] or DMing me on Discord at pandruwu#0754, and all exceptions will be considered by the KICKOFF team. Additionally, teams comprised of players from different schools may be allowed at KRAMIG, but please contact the TDs before registering, we will make decisions on a case-by-case basis.
Rules
Rosters are capped at 6 players, and only 4 players may play at one time. Players must follow NAQT gameplay rules (with timing + other small modifications). Our integrity policy for this tournament will require active players to show TWO HANDS on camera if they don’t have an exemption from a TD. Players will additionally follow PACE's Honor Code. Any suspicions of cheating will be investigated and may be reported to quizbowl organizations.
Format
We will have one division for this tournament, though we may have a “Novice” division if interest exists. The field is capped at 20 teams (changed from 16). Teams will be guaranteed 9 games. We will use 20 tossups and 20 three-part-bonuses per untimed round. 15-point powers and negative-5-point negs are in play. There will be no computational math.
Additionally, this tournament is a PLATINUM PACE qualifier, meaning the top 25% of the field (rounded up) will qualify for quizbowl nationals in June!
Games will be played on Discord, with Buzzin.live for buzzing. Each individual player must have their own Discord account to join the tournament server. Making an account can be done so here.
Registration
Register teams using this form. Outside staffers will be paid $25 for staffing the whole tournament and may sign up here. Staffers will be accepted on a first-come-first-serve basis until we have enough staff. The registration deadline for this tournament will be Thursday, January 26th at 3:00 PM EST.
Fees
Base Fee: $70 per team
Shorthanded (1-2 players) discount: -$30
Staff Discount: -$25
There will be a minimum fee of $0 per school. Teams who cancel after January 25th at 11:59 PM EST must pay the full fee, barring extenuating circumstances.
Payment should be made out through Venmo, Paypal, or by check (with Venmo strongly preferred). If your school needs a W-9 or additional info to pay, please let us know via email before registration. We will send payment details prior to the tournament.
Stats
Team and individual stats will be posted on hsquizbowl.com within 24 hours of the end of the tournament. We will have live stats up to the game on a Google Sheet, and category and subcategory stats.
Misconduct
Anyone involved with the tournament, including but not limited to: coaches, players, staff, tournament directors, and spectators must adhere to the PACE Code of Conduct. Misconduct can be reported to this form and/or sent to [email protected].
Contact
Please direct any questions to [email protected]. We hope to see your team here!

Re: KRAMIG (1/29, Online, KICKOFF)
We have expanded the field to 24 teams! This will likely be final (see field post). Additionally, we are looking for a few more experienced staffers who would be willing to solo a room- if this is you, please fill out this form, we'd love to have you!

Re: KRAMIG (1/29, Online, KICKOFF)
We are reasonably confident we will be able to fill the field, so we have expanded to 28 teams! As a reminder, all Northeast or DMV teams can sign up here- teams from other states should feel free to contact me (Discord: pandruwu#0754; Email: [email protected]) for an exemption if they want to play.

Re: KRAMIG (1/29, Online, KICKOFF)
We have now hit our field cap of 28 teams! We will definitely expand to 30 or 32 teams if there is enough interest (and this would make for a smoother tournament!), so keep those registrations coming in! Additionally, a logistics email has been sent out to all teams- please reach out to me privately at [email protected] if you have not received this email or have any questions in general.

We have now expanded to 30 teams! Next expansions will be 32 and 36 teams if there is sufficient interest. Additionally, the registration deadline will be extended to Thursday (1/26) at 3:00 PM EST - the drop deadline will remain the same (Wednesday (1/25) at 11:59 PM EST).

Re: KRAMIG (1/29, Online, KICKOFF)
We had one team drop, so we invite teams to fill out this form to round out the field for KRAMIG! We are also looking for a staffer (you do not have to be available for the whole day too, we need 1 full day staffer and 1 afternoon-only staffer). Please fill out the staffer form linked in the OP.

Re: KRAMIG (1/29, Online, KICKOFF)
KRAMIG happened yesterday! First, I'd like to thank all 30 teams who came out and all 21 staffers! This tournament really would not have been possible without you, and we hope you had fun.
As always, I'd like to thank Cindy Gao, my co-TD for this tournament for staffing, handling protests, and doing so much more - this tournament could not have run as smoothly as it did without Cindy. Special thanks to Conor Thompson for helping us figure out a fair 30-team schedule. Additionally, our staff were all amazing, big thanks to Mike Laudermith, Jacob O'Rourke, Jarrett Holmes, Sam Macchi, Jeffrey Xu, Conor Thompson, Aum Mundhe, Camden Williams, Richard Lin, Sanjeev Ganesh, Danny Peelen, Cindy Gao, Omkar Marathe, Jawad Mahmud, Kriv Jhajhria, Sophia Guo, Gus Carvell, Anvith Vanukuri, Sivaneyan Vivekanandhan, Sreekar Vajjha, and Claire Chan for speding their Sunday staffing KRAMIG.
There were 24 closed teams at KRAMIG today, which meant that the top 25% (or 6 teams) qualified for the PACE NSC. At the end, there were exactly six teams in the top superplayoff bracket, so all of those teams qualified (Detroit Country Day, Kinkaid, Richard Montgomery A, tim johnson B, tim johnson A, and East Chapel Hill).
Detroit Country Day won the tournament by going undefeated in superplayoffs and throughout the tournament as a whole. Kinkaid and Richard Montgomery A tied for second by going 3-2 in superplayoffs. The rest of the teams are listed in the correct order of finish here, and category stats are here.
