Queen's University Invitational Tournament (March 4th, Kingston, ON)

Post by apoquet »

The Queen's University Quiz Team is very excited to announce that we will be hosting the Queen's University Invitational Tournament, the first in-person high school quizbowl tournament on Canadian soil since the start of the pandemic!

Logistics

This tournament will take place on March 4th, 2023 at Jeffrey Hall (48 University Avenue, Kingston, ON). The tournament will begin at 10 AM to give more driving time to teams arriving from out of town. We will be using the NAQT IS-220A set.

Teams can be made of up to 6 players, with a maximum of 4 players playing at any given time. If you have more than 6 players that wish to attend, please consider registering a second team.

Eligibility

There will be no formal eligibility restrictions at this tournament beyond the standard eligibility guidelines established by NAQT
(https://www.naqt.com/hs/eligibility.html). Non-Canadian teams are welcome to attend, and we won't turn anyone away due to past quizbowl results or experience. Pease keep in mind, however, that nearly every school that will participate in this tournament is new to quizbowl; if you're a veteran QB team, this might not be the tournament for you.

Fees

As we have received a question discount from NAQT, we are fortunately able to charge a very low registration fee to teams.

(all fees listed in CAD)

Registration fee: $30 per team

Discounts:
Buzzer discount: -$10
Shorthanded discount (given to a team with one or two players): -$10
Minimum fee: $20

Field Cap

Due to a limited number of rooms and staff, we will be setting the first field cap at 6 teams. This may expand depending on staff availability and level of interest in the tournament.

Please note that while we will be accepting registrations from American teams, we intend to prioritize teams from Canada. As such, if an American team decides to register, we will only formally accept their registration on Saturday, February 18th, thus giving Canadian teams a chance to register first.

To register (or if you have any questions or concerns about this tournament), please contact us at trivia (at) clubs (dot) queensu (dot) ca.

Hope to see many of you on the 4th!
