2023 UQC DART Nationwide (5/13, Online, DART III)

Post by oriley »

With Northfield Quizbowl, the UQC is pleased to announce that we will be hosting a national, online, closed mirror of DART III on Saturday, May 13, 2023. There will be an opening meeting at 8:45 AM Central, and games will begin at 9 AM Central.

This tournament will take place online over Zoom and Buzzin.live. Depending on field size, all teams will be guaranteed from eight to ten games.

Registration
To register to play this tournament, teams should fill out this form. Staffers should register by filling out this form. The field cap will initially be set at 18 teams, but will expand if we have enough staffers.

The deadline to register to play this tournament is Wednesday, May 10, 2023. Teams who drop from the field after 11 PM Central on that day will be required to pay the full fee. Please drop before the registration deadline if you need to drop.

All staff will be paid $40, except those staffing for team discounts.

Fees
Base fee: $80
Staffer discount: -$40
Late fee: +$20

Cheating
To prevent cheating, all players will be required to have both of their hands and their screen in view** of a camera. This may be easily accomplished with a second camera angle, or by buzzing on a phone. For this reason, unfortunately we will not be able to permit any camera exemptions. Those who have issues with Internet who wish to play this tournament might inquire as to whether their team can meet in-person in one location, such as a school classroom.

Payment
I must receive payment within 7 days of the tournament (by May 20), or your school will be charged a $20/team late fee. Alternate arrangements may be made to this policy if I am contacted before the registration deadline.

My email is oriley1201 AT icloud DOT com. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

**Some anti-cheating addenda
If you are joining from a separate physical location, a cursory check of the lighting in your room may do you some good. If very little light is able to enter the room around you, we ask you to back away from your camera to provide staff easier visibility of your hands and Buzzin screen. A couple of players in our recent tournaments have been subject to unnecessary scrutiny because their window curtains maintained an incredible capacity for blocking sunlight.

Unrelated to the above, as a point of emphasis, be aware that if you are turning your buzzin screen away from the camera during tossups, we will ask you to refrain from doing that, as the anti-cheating policy requires that your buzzin screen be visible to staff during tossups. Staff are not “out to get you.” Staff are out to ensure every player’s integrity is unimpeachable. And staff are watching you through a small box in their Zoom screens, so simple, minor mistakes may occur—this is why we check camera angles before Round 1.
