HSNCT Side Event: Captivating Literature Excluding All Novels (CLEAN)

Post by dpeelen »

Hello everyone! I am pleased to announce that Omkar Marathe and I (Danny Peelen) are planning to host an HSNCT side event, Captivating Literature Excluding All Novels, abbreviated CLEAN, on May 26th. We are working out details of the event itself, but the plan is to have 4 or 5 packets ready.

As the name indicates, all packets will be literature tossup-only questions, but not including long fiction (novels). Our aim is for the content to be 2.5 dot difficult (equivalent difficulty to 2022 ARCADIA), though that may vary with limited content to pull from.

As of right now, Richard Lin (Bellarmine) and Teigue Kelly (Waubonsie Valley) are also writing for the set and Nathan Zhang (Cornell) is acting as an editor. With the absence of novels, the rough distribution for each packet is as follows:

6 Short Story
6 Poetry
6 Drama
2 Essay/Non-Fiction

Tentatively, we are hoping this will be an HS-only duos tournament with a $20 entry fee, but that may be subject to change. If there are any concerns regarding logistics of the tournament please reach out (see contact info below).

Otherwise, duos can register here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... sp=sharing

If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to reach out at dapeelen [at] gmail [dot] com or on Discord at fugard#4534.

Thank you all and hope to see you there!

Update on CLEAN:

In light of the fact that side events must not interfere with scrimmages, the first 2 rounds of CLEAN are planned for Friday 5/26, at 9PM. We hope these two rounds take 30-40 minutes to ensure players can get sleep. The rest of the rounds are planned to take place Saturday, 5/27, after all HSNCT play stops. Timing for Saturday cannot be guaranteed though based on the scheduling for the day, we aim to pick up at 8:30PM. Please note that time may be pushed back if games go longer than expected.

If there are any concerns or questions, please reach out! My contact information is in the post above.
