Tennessee 2023-2024

Post by TusculumPearson »

To those concerned with the advancement of our buzzer game in Tennessee, greeting.

The primary purpose of this post is to share Brian Hoover's definitive schedule of Tennessee quizbowl events for the third year running. That calendar is the reliable update on events in the state; if you have Tennessee events you want added to that calendar, email [email protected].

Following Glasgow High School's mid-South kickoff at the Scottie on September 16, the state of Tennessee will kick off the competitive season from west to east. Memphis University School will host their Fall Tournament on September 23 (not linked on the forums, contact Jonathan Jones at [email protected]), University School of Nashville will run the Battle of Edgehill on September 30, and Tusculum University will host their second-annual (and possibly ill-named) Earlybird on October 7. Both the Battle of Edgehill and Earlybird will run on USN's Planetfall high-school regular set (and Tusculum Earlybird will also host a novice division in addition).

The fall season will continue on October 28 in Middle and East Tennessee. Vanderbilt hosts their annual SPOOKY Halloween-themed tournament, mirroring SHOW-ME More on the HS-regs level. East Tennessee Quizbowl runs their annual Secret City Classic (forums post pending) the same day; the intent there is to mirror SCOP Novice 13 on the HS-novice level.

The two remaining high school events on the calendar are on NAQT sets. Portland High School's annual Turkey Bowl will run on November 4 on IS-225A, and Cookeville High School runs the newly-christened Carolyn Hawkins Memorial Tournament tentatively on December 2 on IS-226.

We are gearing up for the third revival of the Tennessee State Quizbowl Tournament, the state championship currently slated for March 2024. We're still working on finalizing a date and place for that tournament.

Please use this thread to promote and stoke conversation on Tennessee events. We had a wonderful year of post-COVID revival last year, and we hope to grow on last year's successes.
