SUDO
SUDO
Introducing the tournament of SUDO (Strange, Unusual, and Disturbing Occurrences) - a tournament with a focus on “pseudo-”, fringe, genre, or unusual areas.
The distribution is as follows:
3/3 Literature - fiction with a connection to mysticism, primarily by core canon authors; fantasy and horror.
4/4 History - the history of weird things, history according to conspiracy theories, weird and unexplained events. Expect murder, mystery, and the macabre. Cuts off at 2000.
5/5 Pseudoscience (At least 1/1 "biology," 1/1 "physics," 1/1 astro*). Think biology as phrenology, geology as crystals, etc. Mostly also cuts off at 2000.
2/2 Belief - Less common religions, mystic traditions in more common religions, NRMs, cults.
2/2 Misc - Complete miscellaneous, includes parapsychology
1/1 Geography: places where strange things have occurred.
1/1 Visual Art: sci-fi/fantasy art, art with a connection to mysticism or spiritualism.
1/1 Music (classical and popular): sci-fi/fantasy-themed music, music with a connection to mysticism or spiritualism.
1/1 Trash / Miscellaneous
*Note this is possibly the only time where astro is more likely to mean astrology than astronomy.
There will be 6 packets of 20/20.
This is attempting to be around college regionals difficulty - the topics are actually generally connected to the core canon.
Hoping to spookily host this tournament online the weekend before Halloween!

Re: SUDO
Hey! Apologies for being actually a year late on this (and not seeing the update posts). This tournament is now finished and can run sometime this October!
(I will say that this tournament evolved a bit during the writing, so as to veer away from the depressing aspect of a lot of conspiracy-theory-type stuff. There are a few things that don't quite fit the "pseudo"-mold, and are better described as "kunstkammer" or "real but bizarre" events that I couldn't fit into any other tournament.)
Fill out this form so I can get an idea for plausible dates: https://forms.gle/Qy7cTnV2PKk78MJa9

Re: SUDO
Might there be other opportunities to play this for folks who are, say, playing Penn Bowl on that date?

Re: SUDO
Link fixed, my apologies.
I could try and run another mirror one week in December;will put up a poll for that as well.

Re: SUDO
I forgot to fill out the poll but I wonder if at least moving this to Sunday would get more interest. There are some existing college / high school tournaments on this Saturday.

Re: SUDO
To answer the questions:
Moving the time to Sunday is fine, since Saturday and Sunday got about the same number of votes in the poll.
The tournament will start Sunday 10/29, at 10 EST. I will send out more details via email.
The tournament will be free to play, but I would encourage players to kick $10 towards the charity of their choice.
As is, the tournament won't be able to be run without a few more moderators, so I would encourage folks to sign up for moderating as well! Moderators will be paid $10.
Thanks!

Re: SUDO
Edit to the above post:
Due to an unforeseen scheduling conflict, I'm not free this Sunday anymore. The tournament can still be run at that time - but only if I can get a few more moderators to help out with the tournament, and someone to run & do stats. Please message me if you're able to do this - I will definitely compensate for this!
If not, I will run the tournament on 11/5, starting at 10 EST, instead. I will also read the tournament on Saturday 10/28 starting 10 EST as a scrimmage, if anyone is not available 11/5 but still interested in playing.
Thanks!

Re: SUDO
Has this tournament officially been rescheduled? I’m hearing that it might have been? I’d really appreciate an update, as I’m potentially able to play either tomorrow or next Sunday, but I’m much more interested in playing with a team and stats than as a shootout. However, I have no idea if my teammates are available next weekend or if there will still be enough teams to support a field, and I guess I have to figure that out within the next 12 hours? I guess my suggestion is that tomorrow morning is not the best time for this shootout/scrimmage when the field for the real mirror isn’t determined yet at all. Please update when you can!

Re: SUDO
Sorry about the last-minute change, apologies for that.
Confirming that this will be officially rescheduled to 11/5, since I don't have a way to run it this Sunday.
I will still be online to run tomorrow as a shootout so that option is available, but I definitely understand a full tournament would be more preferable, and this doesn't give much time to see before the shootout whether teammates would be available 11/5.
The best option I can see for that: I can run another online mirror sometime in later November / December. That means that if a team isn't available for 11/5, they have more time to figure out if they can play later, instead of having to quickly decide on tomorrow. I will put out a poll for that later date.

This was a fantastic side event with entertaining clues, fun conceits, and an accessible difficulty. Can't recommend it enough!
