Sammarinese format

Post by CPiGuy »

This is an overview post describing the Sammarinese quiz format, based on Owen Riley's Venetian, but played by teams of two.

There are thirty bonus-like sets of three questions, two in each of fifteen categories. The game is split into rounds of four sets. During the first four rounds, each player will choose a topic and hear a set in that topic; the opposing team can attempt steals on missed questions for 5 points each. During rounds five and six, teams instead work together on their sets (and there are still bouncebacks). After the first six rounds, if the game is close, a seventh round is played on the remaining questions.

Teams can choose to "double" a set they hear; if they get all three parts they score 60 points, but if they don't get all three parts they get just one point per part (instead of ten).

Teams may also "mulligan" their own sets, if they don't like the topic, and may mulligan their opponents' sets, if they don't want their opponents playing them.

Here is a link to the full format rule set (which is still subject to change).

If you're interested in playing test games to give your feedback on the format and rules, let me know.

I will also be announcing the inaugural tournament on this format shortly.
