USN Snowball Fight (1/13/2024)

Post by Sima Guang Hater »

The University School of Nashville is pleased to announce Snowball Fight, a tournament taking place in-person at the University School of Nashville on Saturday, January 13th, 2024. This tournament is a small event primarily for TN and KY teams. Check-in on the day of the tournament will begin at 730AM central, with a start time of 815AM for the first round.

Questions:
This tournament will be run on SITH. The tournament is similar difficulty to a regular difficulty high school tournament or an IS set tournament (but with longer questions). For a comparable tournament, please see KICKOFF from last year: https://quizbowlpackets.com/2803/.

Format:
We will be using untimed rounds consisting of 20 tossups with three-part bonuses. We will use standard NAQT gameplay rules (https://www.naqt.com/rules/) with ACF timing (5 seconds on TU, 5 seconds on bonuses, 5 seconds after buzzing in). There will be powers and negs, and no bouncebacks on bonuses. Teams will be seeded into preliminary brackets and playoff brackets will be determined based on preliminary record (ties broken by PPG). All teams will be offered a minimum of 8 games, and statistics (including individual statistics) will be kept in full.

Fees and Discounts:
The base fee is $90 for the first team sent by a school and $80 for any subsequent teams.
Moderators: $15 discount will be offered for experienced moderators.
Buzzers: $5 discount per buzzer with no limit on buzzers (until we reach around 10 buzzers).
The minimum fee is $50

Registration:
This tournament is open to any HS team (with priority to TN and KY teams), with all players from the same school. Teams can register for this tournament by sending an email to [email protected]. When registering, please let us know how many teams, buzzers, and moderators you expect to bring. The field cap is tentatively set at 10 teams.

Location:
The tournament will take place at USN Upper School. Directions and parking will be made available closer to the tournament date.

Payment:
Schools may pay using cash, personal checks, funds from an organization, or school checks. We prefer payment the day of, but checks can be sent ahead of time (contact us for more information). If you require a pre-tournament invoice or W-9 form in order to have a check written, please let us know before the tournament.

Team Size:
Teams must consist of players from the same school. Teams will consist of up to four active players and up to two substitutes for a total of six players per team. Players may not transfer between teams.

Prizes:
A sense of pride and accomplishment. Or that "kleos aphthiton" that Matt Bollinger told me about that one time.

Contact:
Any questions about the tournament can be directed to [email protected].

FIELD (10/10):
USN High School - 2 teams
USN Middle School - 2 teams
Cookeville HS - 3 teams
Hume Fogg - 1 team
Adair HS - 1 team
Chimera (USN + Battle Ground + Hume Fogg) - 1 team

WAITLIST:

We would love any help with reading as well.

Hope to see you all in a few weeks!
