Syracuse University Quizbowl Invitational Tournament (SUQIT) - Syracuse,NY (4/13/24) [IQBT RSS#3]

Post by Krazy »

The Quiz Bowl Association, Syracuse University, in collaboration with the Unofficial Central New York Quizbowl Alliance (CNYQuA) is hosting its first high school tournament at Syracuse University. The tournament will take place on the first and second floors of the historic Hall of Languages on the main campus of Syracuse University. We expect all players to be present on site by 8:30 for a morning informational meeting, and we plan to start the first round no later than 9:00. We are hoping to secure a preferred parking location from the university and will update once we receive one.
Set Used
We will be using IQBT Regular Season Set #3, a standard-difficulty set for high school teams. We suggest reviewing IQBT's forum post for the distribution and any possible conflicts with this tournament.
Registration
Please complete this form in order to register. Please note that there will be a further step for those who do not meet the University's definition of being a minor who are attending the tournament in any capacity but as a spectator. You will receive further information on this after completing the registration form, it should only take a few minutes to complete. Registration will close on April 11, 2024.
Fee Structure
The base price is $90 for the first team and $80 for each additional team. We are also offering a $15 discount for each functioning lock-out buzzer system provided by the team and a $15 discount for each staffer provided by the school. The minimum fee per team is $60 for the first team and $50 for each additional team. Checks should be written to "Syracuse University" with "Quiz Bowl Association" in the memo and can be turned in on April 13th or mailed ahead of time to:
Syracuse University
200 Wavely Ave Suite 230
Syracuse, NY 13244

On-site Contact Information
I, Daniel Kolodny, will be directing the tournament. I can be reached at [email protected]. A phone number will be provided upon registration.
Lunch
Lunch will not be provided but there are multitude of restaurants within walking distance from the site of the tournament. A Syracuse University staffer would be more than happy to direct you towards a restaurant of your choice. We are hoping to allow for a little over an hour for lunch in order to allow teams to walk up and down the hill.
Misconduct Information
All players, spectators, and coaches must adhere to the PACE Code of Conduct. Players, spectators, and coaches should report misconduct either directly to staff or via the misconduct form found at the bottom of the PACE Code of Conduct. Every instance of misconduct will be dealt with seriously by tournament staff. Similarly, the staff will investigate every allegation of cheating and reserves the right to report confirmed cheaters to local and national Quizbowl organizations.
Tournament Format
Games will consist of 20 tossup/bonus pairs, read in untimed matches. During play, we use ACF Gameplay Rules with both the Optional addendum: Power marks and the Optional addendum: Incorrectness Penalties (“Negs”).The exact bracketing format used will depend on the final number of registered teams, but we expect to run a quasi-seeded round robin format in the morning, followed by a rebracketing and another round robin after lunch, with a single final match to determine tournament champion if needed. Due to space constraints this tournament has a hard cap of 24 teams if enough buzzers can be secured.

We anticipate top finishers will qualify for 2024 PACE National Scholastic Championship.

The language of this post has been adapted from Ben Kirk's post announcing the Central NY Winter Invitational (CNYWIn).
