I'll keep this brief. I've been out of the game for a while, so I don't have that much knowledge of the current "going-ons" in the collegiate quizbowl circuit. I considered making a full top 100 list, but to be quite frank I don't have the time or will power to spend hours pouring through stats just for that. Back in my day I considered myself a peripheral top 100 contender and so such a project carried more interest for me. Still, most tournaments I spectate I'd expect to win several games, but that's not here nor there. This is a list of the top 51 active college quizbowl players, for which I am neither eligible, nor deserving.

A few asides about this list.
1) I'm pretty sure everyone on this list is eligible, but if they aren't, don't be a dick about it. They aren't any less deserving of praise then people who might happen to be more enrolled at the time.

2) I emphasized expected PPG over actual PPG. This is more of a projection based than back looking approach. Essentially for every player I'd ask myself how much PPG do I figure this player ought to get.

3) Barring truly exceptional cases, I chose not to rank players who I haven't seen play. This is to protect against bounceback merchants and power vultures taking over this list like the invasive Kudzu vine.

With all that out of the way, enjoy.

I've been fortunate enough to see both of these guys play. I think if you care about peak at all, or if you care about Nationals/LCS performance, you gotta go with Howie over Mike here. Howie Kendrick had his best season at age 35 when he posted an OPS+ of 146 on a team that barely made the playoffs: the 2019 Nationals don't even make the NL Wildcard Game without him. And of course he completely took over the postseason that year, hitting an NLDS-winning homer against the Dodgers in Chavez Ravine, winning the 2019 NLCS MVP against the Cardinals, and of course hitting the game-winning home run off the foul pole in Houston in Game 7 of the World Series. All this after having been signed to be a backup that year. Now, it's true, Mike Cheyne was also legit #1 scoring threat in his final few years of playing after years of being a supporting cast member to the star-studded Minnesota teams of the early 2010's. But let's not undersell the early parts of Howie Kendrick's career. True, he never lived up to the hype he had as a prospect but he was an All-Star in 2011 and received an MVP vote in 2014.

Well reasoned. I couldn't agree more and this was a glaring oversight in an what I consider to be an otherwise pretty solid list. Consider their places flipped for now.

While I appreciate you not falling for the recent "Caleb is the best Maryland player!! OMG!!!" delusions that seem to have hit the nation, I can't help but notice you're missing from your list who I'd consider to be the Maryland player most responsible for their historic 5th place performance at ACF Nationals 2022- just something to think about
