Myself (20.2 ppg / Hazen)
Alex Reyes (19 ppg / LR Catholic)
Roger Coridan (17.8 ppg / Don Tyson School of Innovation)
Micah Autrey (18.4 ppg / Morrilton 9th)
Anant Borad (14.67 ppg / Maumelle Charter)
Evan Cole (12.67 ppg / Izard County)*
Aiden Watson (14.5 ppg / Emerson)

*This pick is based purely upon playing against him. He's very, very quick on the buzzer and, in a game where everyone is going to have good knowledge, that's what you need.
Wow, I mean those are some insane averages. You're going to have a way more competitive run for All-Stars at the JH level compared to last year! However, I do know two people on this list and have played one of them in 2024. I played Micah and Morrilton's quiz bowl team at Beta Club Quiz Bowl Competition at the state convention this year at the end of January. I would say Micah only buzzes in quickly on the stuff that he is very very very confident about (like any other quiz bowl player). But Micah isn't really like a "trigger happy" person. He really just lets the question hang until the end if someone gets it wrong on the opposing side. The other person I know on a personal level is Anant Borad. He is an 8th grader at Maumelle and I don't think he poses too big of a threat to you. However, it is always best to be prepared to any level. I don't recall him being there last year so I can't really speak on anything when it comes to having played against him. The best thing is that at all-stars, you're going to get a feel for how good these people are before the eliminations anyway because of the third room (just like last year)! Anyway, this is my feedback on the players that I know from this list. Good luck at all-stars this year Michael, I'm rooting for you to go win it all!

Thanks for the vote of confidence my man. See, I play off intuition quite a bit, because it's always worked for me. Most of the time when I buzz first, I buzz halfway through the second line (except for math comp ofc, lol), and I obviously don't vulch bc it's just a bad idea.

Wishing you the best of luck, both in All-Stars and your state title game Saturday. Then, next year, it's back to you absolutely blasting me in all star games. LOL

Thank you for wishing me luck! Unfortunately, it'll only be for this upcoming Saturday as I am not competing in all tournament this year due to science fair. I think playing off intuition is the way to go. There are always times when it's inevitable to get questions wrong. Even the best of players get questions wrong in the middle so it's not really a big deal. Also, I just got a little lucky with the questions last year 😅. You were also out there hitting some good buzzes.

Ah, I see. Well good luck with that, then

yeah, you're quite the STEM player from what I remember. My favorite part of getting good buzzes is looking at the opposing teams' faces 😂😂

JH All-Stars favorites (IMO, not in any order)

Maddox Lane (Cabot Freshman) - Didn't put him in my original post like this because I wasn't sure it was the same Maddox who placed 3rd in all-stars finals as an 8th grader last season. Despite there being players who averaged 5+ more tossups than him, I think he's gotta be in the conversation.

Myself (Hazen) - Not to toot my own horn here, believe me, I don't like doing that, but I'm confident I can snag a high finish when I averaged 20.2 tossups per game over the course of the season.

Alexander Reyes (LR Catholic) - I've never seen the guy play, but he averaged 19 tossups per game over the season. Enough said.

Micah Autrey (Morrilton 9th) and Roger Coridan (D.T. School of Innovation) - Same reasoning as Alex Reyes

Evan Cole (Izard County) - He averaged more or less the same amount of tossups as Maddox Lane and is a very, very fast player, he also has a teammate who made his region all-tournament team, so I'm sure he has the ability to answer 16-17 tossups a game in a vacuum

Besides State Championships this weekend we also have three schools participating in National Events

Drew Phelps of Vilonia will be competing in the National History Bee and Bowl in Washington D.C, seeking to achieve another top finish after securing a regional varsity Bee win and a regional varsity bowl runner up placement.

Little Rock Central has a team also heading to Washington D.C to compete in the National Science Bowl.

and Melbourne heading to Chicago this weekend to compete in SSNCT in both the Traditional Public Schools, and Very Small School category, leaving PACE NSC as the last major pyramidal national tournament to not yet see an Arkansas team.

Good luck to all these exceptional students facing tough competition this weekend!

that was a VERY slow lightning round. Tough set for both teams here.

End 3Q - Trumann 145-105 Arkadelphia

Edit: Trumann takes it home 195-165. Slower game, tough set. Evan was the best player in the room no doubt.

You guys can compete with that Russellville team, you got a lot of good tossups over them and proved you can hang with them.
I was glad to finish out my career strong on TV with my best performance , thanks for the props
Trumann will be a good up and coming team, and we’ll see some more out of hazen and haas bentonville
Definitely looking forward to seeing Catholic again next year with different results.

I like your Catholic squad to beat Russellville next season. Their underclassmen didn't look super confident in that 4Q, granted, it was a small sample size. Look out for sophomore Keegan Fuller and freshman Ian Warnick, though

Thank you so much! I found it a little unfortunate I wasn't able to watch your 6A game 😭, but I'm sure that your Catholic team will be able to make some more noise against Russellville in next year's 6A circuit. I'm looking forward to a big upset against them. Just make sure to look out for the rising juniors in Ian Warnick and the twins (Gideon and Keegan Fuller) as they are one of the top players in the team. They also have a junior who's good at math in Logan. As for 7A, I think next year FS Southside will give some more competition as they have a really young roster from the rising juniors in Justin Han, Josh Chung, and Schuyler. Hopefully, our Central team will have enough strength from Jeff and myself to take them down for the back-to-back. Anyways, good luck for next year and don't quit working hard for quiz bowl!

I've never actually done a full offseason of continuing to prep and we don't do regular season things, so maybe doing either or both of those things will enable me to actually fulfill all of this hype y'all are putting behind me and my Hazen team LOL

Yeah, make sure you're able to attend more invitationals next year as the questions at those invitationals are very helpful for knowledge in general.

With Siddharth not playing in the ASG, who is the favorite to win it at the senior high level? Based on watching the finals, my frontrunners would be Batesville's Alex Tenace and Atkins' Craig Hoien. There are others, such as Peyton Wimberley from Rogers Heritage, but those two players would be my best bets to win the whole thing.

Based on watching the finals, my frontrunners would be Batesville's Alex Tenace and Atkins' Craig Hoien. There are others, such as Peyton Wimberley from Rogers Heritage, but those two players would be my best bets to win the whole thing.
Yeah, with Russellville players like Hayden and Crawford not being able to attend this year, I see nothing stopping Alex Tenace as he's just a literal beast on the buzzer. I would also put out my teammate Jeffrey Robinson to get into the top 5 as well. As an individual, he is a really good player as well. Fort Smith Southside's Sam Pritchard will also be in the top 5 from what I think as well. Immanuel Peter will also be up there as well. From what I saw on Saturday with Craig playing is that he's just fast in a buzzer race but not with the depth of knowledge that I've seen from Alex. From that, I think that Alex Tenace is just the clear favorite to win All Stars on Saturday for sure.

Amazing news. Will there be powermarks or any kind of fundamental changes, or are the questions just getting better? Also, which difficulty will be closest to the senior high sets (Easy HS, Regs, or Hard HS)?

So format changes are out of our control; we write to their format, so the questions are just getting better.

There are various difficulties in there: quarter 1 is closer to easy HS, 2 has regs-minus tossups and easy-medium-hard bonuses, 3 has lightning rounds that have a difficulty gradient as one progresses through them, and 4 is closer to regs or regs-plus.

Just for the heck of it, here's my picks
1A - Armorel 325, Norfork 230
I agree that Brayden Minyard can lead an upset victory for Armorel, but I see it against Norfork rather than Sacred Heart
2A- Hazen 330, HH Bentonville 290
Everybody has to lose at some point in time. I think HH Bentonville is due to lose, and Michael and his young Hazen team can hand HH Bentonville the loss. But it will definitely be a tight game
3A - HH Fayetteville 340, Harding 220
I don't know much about 3A, so I'm kinda just rolling with what @alextenace_ said earlier lol
4A - Trumann 375, Arkedelphia 230
Calling it again, Trumann is a rising dynasty. Noah Clayton as a Senior should be just nothing short of dominant. I have Arky here for now, but again, I agree with @alextenace_ that there are a lot of possibilities for who Trumann's opponent could be
5A - Morrilton 335, Magnolia 245
This one may raise some eyebrows. Magnolia has a young team, and I expect them to get better next season. I don't think they'll win '24-'25, but watch them in '25-'26 and they just might do it. Then of course, obviously, Morrilton will be gaining Micah Autrey, adding to the already good players in Drew Howard and Wesley Sardin. They seem ready to win.
6A - Catholic 345, Russellville 310 OR Catholic 360, Greenwood 295
I love how high y'all are on Catholic   , and I think one way or another we'll make it back to the finals. However, I think there is a decent chance we end up in the same bracket as Russellville next year during the state tournament. If that is the case, assuming we beat them, I think the next best team is probably Greenwood. No matter what, I think the 6A title game will be must-see TV come April 2025.
7A - LR Central 355, Rogers Heritage 260
Siddharth Sridharan and Jeffery Robinson can definitely run it back next season. I think Rogers Heritage would keep it closer the second time around, but in the end Central is the better team at this time.

The most points we scored on a senior high set this past year was 205, I'm not sure we're beating anyone 330-290  but if we beat BHHA everyone'll know you called it first haha

Way-Too-Early Top 10 for next season:

1. LR Central (7A Champions) - Even without their second leading scorer in Jeffrey Robinson, LRC still dominated Rogers Heritage en route to a state quiz bowl championship, and they have a star sophomore reminiscent of Sean Cafferty-Lueck in Siddarth Sridharan. (Careful, Central - don't let him transfer to Russellville on ya). With Sridharan and Robinson playing next year, I don't see this team really being challenged en route to another championship.

2. LR Catholic (6A Runners-up) - The Rockets have a possible 4x MVP in freshman Alexander Reyes, who led the 6A State tournament in scoring last year. With the departure of Claryn, Crawford, and Hayden for Russellville, this could be the opening for Catholic to open up a dynastic run of their own.

3. Russellville (6A Champions, 9x defending) - Russellville graduates their three best players and is likely led by Ian Warnick and Keegan Fuller going into next year. This team will always be a tough out as they play a LOT of games and have a LOT of experience. But, sometimes talent is too much to overcome, and Catholic may have the best player in 6A for years to come in Alex Reyes.

4. Trumann (4A Champions) - Noah Clayton now takes the reins of this team as the best player after the graduation of Evan Shrout, and, to be honest, I don't see another team in 4A that can compete with these guys next season.

5. Haas Hall Academy Bentonville (2A Champions, 4x defending) - Haas Hall Bentonville, after sweeping Immanuel 4-0 in finals games, now stands atop 2A and waits for a new challenger. They also bring in new blood, with Arjun Paradkar and Shaan Prasanna both being 7 ppg scorers at the JH level last season. They also retain Aaroosh, who is an LSU fan, which makes me want to destroy him in finals next season. Alas, we shall see.

6. FS Southside (4th in 7A) - Southside's young core, led by Justin Han, looks to make a return to finals after a two-year hiatus. In their way stands possibly LRC (if they end in the same bracket), Rogers Heritage without Peyton Wimberley, and possibly their biggest challenger for the "Runners-Up to LRC" trophy, Bryant, with the ascent of Christian Nash.

7. Bryant (3rd in 7A) - Speak of the devil, there's Bryant! IMO, them and FSS are interchangeable.

8. Haas Hall Academy Fayetteville (3rd in 3A) - Two years removed from the utter demolishing handed to them by Claire Bishop's Mountain View team, FHHA is ready to make another appearance on state TV for the championship.

9. Morrilton (3rd in 5A) - This Morrilton team, coming off a 3rd place finish, looks primed to shoot back up to the top after a reload, featuring JH star Micah Autrey (184 ppg in '24). Overall, combined with just always being competitive, this Morrilton team with Autrey should be very good next year. And I said Paragould would win in '25...might need to go edit some things LOL

10. Magnolia (2nd in 5A) - After last year's Cinderella team made finals as a 10th seed, Magnolia looks to wreak havoc in the 5A again next year. I think they could possibly make finals again, but only time will tell.

Predicted JH All-Star Finalists:
Myself
Alex Reyes
Roger Coridan
Micah Autrey
Maddox Lane
Luke Jones
Hunter Rowlee
Aiden Watson
Titus Tarver
Anant Borad

If I had to guess how the placement happened, it'd be:
1. Maddox Lane. He was one of the best players in the all star tournament last season as an 8th grader. His numbers aren't as gaudy as others', but that could be because he gets more help on his team.

2. Myself. I placed 8th at the ASG last season and have gotten 5 questions per game better from that season. I sometimes do jump the buzz, but my gambles pay off quite well most of the time.

3. Alexander Reyes. He was the 6A MVP in senior high with 9 SH tossups per game, and can attack early into questions. He should be able to compete for the top spot.

4. Micah Autrey. He's not as fast as Reyes, myself, or Maddox, but he does have the depth of knowledge needed to be one of the best players in the field.

5. Roger Coridan. I've never seen this guy play or heard of anything he's done in a game, but he should be good. He averaged 17.8 per game. That's about it.

6. Anant Borad. He's an 8th grader with a great chance at next season's all-star tournament, but he just isn't as good as the top 5 in my opinion. He could surprise me, maybe.

7. Luke Jones. This guy has quite the depth of knowledge, but he isn't as fast as many of the other guys who will be in this with him. That being said, there is some stuff he can firstline.

8. Hunter Rowlee. Yes, he averaged more than the two guys above him, but, truth be told, I trust them more than this guy I've never played against.

9. Aiden Watson. Same thing as Rowlee, I just don't know how he is. Maybe he's an absolute buzzer demon. I just don't know.

10. Titus Tarver. Maybe he's better than this, but I don't see him being ahead for long, I see him going at question 20 but maybe he surprises me.

curious since i’m more familiar with history bowl, does Vilonia normally place highly at agqba events, i know he does well at history bowl and history bee and with the liqba questions being somewhat close in format to that of history bowl i wonder if that gives those teams good at history bowl an advantage
