I am pleased to announce that the Maryland club will be hosting a side event weekend on the weekend of August 10-11, 2024 in College Park.
More final logistics will be updated to this post in the coming weeks as we get closer to the tournament. Below is the general outline of how the weekend will run.
Schedule of Events
Saturday (Aug 10)
TELEOLOGY 3 (arts-and humanities heavy challenging hybrid event written by Taylor Harvey)
Untitled Film Set (half-visual, half written packets of film tossups written by Ani Perumalla)
This Set is Garbo (a Classic Hollywood side event written by Henry Atkins)
Sunday (Aug 11)
Ahead by a Century (world-heavy history side event written by Erik Christensen)
LITANY (literature side event written by Clark Smith, Shourjo Ganguli, Ali Hamzeh, and Stan Melkumian)
TOWNS (challenging side event on regional American geography and culture written by Conor Thompson, Joel Miles, and Guy Indorante)
Pricing for all events will be announced at a later time, but expect it to be around $15/20 for each person per event.
A signup/team formation spreadsheet for all events can be found here. I have it tentatively set up to run TELEOLOGY in teams of 4; Untitled Film Set, Ahead by a Century, and LITANY in duos; and This Set is Garbo and TOWNS in shootouts with potential for duos since they are a bit more niche, but I am happy to change any of these if interest sways one way or or the other.

Any chance we can swap the order of LITANY and TOWNS on Sunday? TOWNS and Ahead by a Century are both sort of history tournaments and are likely to attract a more similar audience than LITANY. Self interestedly, I may not be able to make the final event on Sunday.

I'd also strongly prefer none of the events to be shootouts as shootouts suck.

Re: 2024 Maryland Side Event Weekend (Aug 10-11)
A few updates:
1) We will be swapping LITANY and TOWNS on Sunday such that TOWNS comes second in the day, right after Ahead By a Century
2) We'd like to mirror Lore Dump: Expanded Universe at some point during this weekend as well; due to the already tight schedule we've planned, I think this would be best suited to be run concurrently with one of the more niche events. My inclination is to have that be along with This Set is Garbo on Saturday evening, but if anyone has strong feelings either way on when this should run, please let me know. Regardless, I've added a tab on the sheet to gauge interest.
3) This tournament is only a few weekends away now, so reminder to put your name down for events if you haven't already! I also encourage people to start forming teams/duos soon, as that will make our jobs easier as we get closer to the event.

Hope everyone enjoyed playing This Set Is Garbo last night; I've set up a discussion server here for anyone who has feedback or just wants to talk about their buzzes.
