not necessarily. russ is still the heavy favorite, for good reason, but catholic will be improved in '25 and shouldn't be overlooked.

Catholic may be the underdogs, but its highly unlikely that Russellville lose the finals until 2027. The rising juniors are just insane, especially Ian, Gideon, and Keegan. Honestly, they might even be the best team in the state this year.

It's gonna be an uphill battle for anyone at any time to dethrone Russellville as long as they continue to pour this much into their quizbowl program. You don't win 9 straight state championships just because you somehow end up with random talented players for that long. This program has trained and developed their players since MS quizbowl. Every single player in that team for the next three years will have winning experience as part of a quizbowl dynasty. That's why I think Reyes and LR Catholic are the only team that can beat them, because you aren't gonna beat Russ in the depth/numbers game. They always have five contributing players on the floor at any time. However, if Reyes continues to improve and just ends up being better than every single Russellville player in terms of pure tossup skill, then he could outscore them. Kind of like Shawn Cafferty-Lueck did against a very good Conway team in 2019.

My argument against that is the fact that all of those players are already well developed to where they can average 13+ as a one man team. Whereas Reyes is only a developing player. Not saying it’s impossible, but a lot of hard work is needed to beat that Russ team, even for us to beat them this upcoming year.

With that team it's tough because they're all really good but they can work on their depth of knowledge in one area because they're a fully coherent unit, which results in Russellville dominating everyone because they're expanding depth of knowledge in 5 different categories during the entire offseason while most teams are reliant on 1-2 players
