Notes on the Underground Online (9/15/24)

Post by TaylorH »

This is the announcement for an open online mirror of the literature set Notes on the Underground, to be played on Sunday, 9/15/24. Info on the set can be found here. We will play the ten packets in teams of up to 3 (with possible expansion to 4 to accommodate any teamless players).

A team formation and official signup sheet can be found here. Free agents and interested staffers may also sign up in the appropriate columns.

We'll play on Zoom + Buzzin Live. The field cap will depend on the number of sign-ups. Cost is $20 per player. Staff will be paid.

I don't have a strong attachment to the announced date, so if anyone who would like to play can't make it then, I'm open to shifting it later.

[Edit, date is back to 9/15]

Again, if there are objections to this date, I am open to moving it forward to another weekend.

Just for clarity, how long would you expect it to run and what time of day?

Planning for a start time of 10 AM ET. It will be 10 rounds of 20/0, so I'll expect it to be about 4-5 hours of playtime plus a short lunch.

I can make either date but I'm guessing there isn't heavy TOWNS overlap given that there are two different online mirror dates for that.

Good point. I've gotten word that the Sunday actually works better for some folks interested in playing so I am moving this back to the original date of Sunday, 9/15. Sorry for the shuffle.

A reminder that this tournament is being played in a little over a week. We still have quite a few free agents signed up, so I encourage them to start forming teams. Presently it looks like there are enough free agents for 3 full teams and some change, so if a few more individuals sign up we might be able to get to 8 full teams of three.

It looks like at the present moment, if all free agents were to be put on teams we will have exactly 8 teams of 3, which is my ideal number. As such, all free agents should arrange to form new teams or join open slots on existing teams by this Friday, 9/13. If free agents aren't on a team by then, I will assign the remaining free agents to teams at random so we can get to 8 teams. Players and staff should expect to get an email with further info by early on Saturday.

With eight teams, the field for this is now closed. I have placed the remaining free agents on three ad hoc teams at random. If anyone on those teams has objections to their placement, please let me know and we can reshuffle. Team contacts and all free agents will receive an organization email tomorrow.

I could also use one more experienced staffer to read and scorekeep. Staff will be paid $50 for their work.

Congrats to nobody, not even the rain, has such small ppb (Jordan Brownstein and JinAh Kim) for winning this tournament! And thank you to all players for giving it a shot! Stats can be found here.

This set is not yet clear as there is one possible in-person mirror on the horizon; if anyone else wants to mirror this sometime this fall or winter, let me know.
