Wrong: Spinal Tap
Correct: The Chipmunks (Alvin &...)
Wrong: Spongebob Squarepants
Correct: Matt Leinart
(on a clue about 'his favorite place to eat is Wahoos Fish and Tacos')
There were many more this weekend, I just can't remember them...

He buzzed in at the very beginning, when it said it may have originated in the Minoan civilization. It was only after he buzzed that they actually described the thing in question.metsfan001 wrote:I can see that happening. Actually, given just that info, I wouldn't consider Murphy's Law all that bad a guess ..... a bit too fast as you observed, but not by any means a foolish choice (I would more question someone who wrote a toss-up with that correct answer, than someone giving your answer).Djibouti wrote:At ER this weekend:
ANSWER GIVEN: "Measure twice, cut once"
CORRECT ANSWER: Murphy's Law
In some defense, the question was talking about an addage that applied to engineering, though my answer was completely stupid.
I believe Murphy's Law was the correct answer, while "measure twice, cut once" was the bad neg.Tegan wrote:Actually, given just that info, I wouldn't consider Murphy's Law all that bad a guess ..... a bit too fast as you observed, but not by any means a foolish choice (I would more question someone who wrote a toss-up with that correct answer, than someone giving your answer).Djibouti wrote:At ER this weekend:

In keeping with the them of this thread. . .
Given:
Given:
Correct:I just got my information for the seeding meeting. Since I am in Class A, and many of the teams are more than an hour a way from the seeding meeting most have indicated they are not coming to the seeding meeting. In the past, the people who came to the seeding meeting would get a list of the scores, and the name of the teams that they had played. This year all I am getting is the teams record. This is a little disappointing, that we moved to a system with greater technological requirements and get less information than before. For those who are interested in Class A, here are the records of the teams in my subsectional:
Aurora Central Catholic : 1-8
Braidwood Reed-Custer: 9-3
Chicago Latin 20-9
Coal City: 4-6
Timothy Christian: 14-9
Roycemore: 3-11
Gardner-South Wilmington: 1-3
Lisle: 2-10
Ottawa Marquette: 11.5 and 12.5 (I don't know what that means)
Seneca: 19-1
Somonauk: 3-10
Streator (Woodland): 5 -3
Wilmington: 2-10
approximate Q: Adjusted for inflation, who was the richest American to ever live?
Wrong Answer: King Tut
Right Answer: John D. Rockefeller
From today at Buzzerpalooza:
This piece of skin in the back of the mouth...<BUZZ>
Incorrect: Urethra
Correct: Uvula
Sadly, that was our JV.
Also:
On video, he was seen having trouble handling an automatic shotgun...
Incorrect: Dick Cheney
Correct: al-Zarqawi

On the It's Academic match that aired today (during the bonus round for another school):
Full Question: Former President Bill Clinton grew up in what Arkansas town that shares its name with the only quality left in Pandora's Box.
Their Answer: Little Rock
It's a mighty good thing that "Little Rock" was left inside Pandora's Box.

Question: Something about music, a subject I'm pathetic in. It was asking for the term that describes when a piece increases in volume quickly. This is a bonus and it bounces back. We have no idea, so I say
Answer: "Al Dente," as a joke. The captain glares at me, and says no answer.
Other team: *nods at each other* Al Dente.

This involved a bad neg, but it was an even worse rebound. I swear, this was the worse played question I've ever seen.
At Wash U against some really bad team that I don't remember.
"You wouldn't want to get into a spitting fight with this animal" [buzz]
Me: Llama
Moderator: incorrect
Other team, without letting the moderator even begin the rebound: Camel
answer: Komodo Dragon.

Last year, there was a tossup in the early rounds with the giveaway "...this country named after Simon Bolivar." In one room, it got vultured incorrectly, thus denying the team quite possibly the ten easiest points of the tournament.charlieDfromNKC wrote:Moderator: incorrect

From today's Division I sectionals, which are kosher.
Me: Hard drive
Right: Heelies (?)
Others
Question: "...that are not morality plays, and not--" [BUZZ]
Other team: "Morality plays."
Wrong: Kennedy/Nixon debate

Yeah, that one was funny, but my favorite neg from the various tournaments we've hosted this year is still from our high school tournament:UERD wrote:Me: "masturbation" Correct answer: "usury"
"In Hamlet, Claudius describes a Norman who has unusual control of one. One named Fru-Fru appears in Anna Karenina, while Don Quixote’s is named Rocinante..."
*buzz*
Wrong: Wife?
Correct: Horse.
I'm still in awe of the Norman with unusual control of his wife.
