ACF Regionals SE (2/17/07) at Tennessee (Knoxville, TN)
[Note from Charlie: I'm passing this along from Scotti Whitmire at UT-Knoxville. This was posted on the Yahoo! group in mid-January, but if it was previously posted on this site I couldn't find it.]
This is the announcement for the Southeast site for ACF Regionals
2007. The tournament will take place on Saturday, Feb. 17th in the
Humanities and Social Sciences building at the University of
Tennessee, Knoxville. Tournament director will be Carol Guthrie, with
assistance from Markus Iturriaga and me.
Fees and Discounts:
Base fee $100; second team $90, third and subsequent teams $80 each.
Discount for a working buzzer $10 (max one per team, 2 per school).
Packet Deadlines (details can be found in
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/quizbowl/message/16563):
Dec. 16th: -$50
Dec. 30th: -$30
Jan. 13th: $0
Jan. 27th: +$20
Feb. 3rd: +$40
no acceptable packet by Feb. 3rd: +$60
Note that not all teams are expected to write packets -- please see
the above-mentioned post.
Directions:
A map of the UT campus can be found at
http://www.utk.edu/maps/campus/campus-map-2006-07.pdf --
the Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) building is near the center
of the map. Parking is available in the S9 lot at the end of the HSS
building and the C8 lot across the street. Directions to UT are at
http://www.utk.edu/maps/directions.shtml and take you to the Campus
Information Center, which is adjacent to the C8 lot. (If you're
coming from the east, you'll probably want to get off at Exit 386 and
follow the directions for coming from the west... construction may
make following the other directions difficult/impossible.)
Food and Lodging:
Everything you could possibly want to eat is available on the
Cumberland Ave. Strip -- it's the large east-west street near the top
of the map linked above. As for lodging, if you're coming from the
west or south, most major hotel chains have a location in the Cedar
Bluff area of west Knoxville; if you're coming from the north or east,
there are several hotels in the Merchants Drive area. If you need more
info about anything, just send me an email.
Please let us know if you're planning to attend, and how many teams
you'll be bringing, by emailing me at silverleaf22 at yahoo dot com.
Thanks,

Actually...
Since the last update I've learned that USF is coming.
Very brief results:
Vanderbilt cleared the field. USF took second with Kentucky taking a close third. We originally had a triple-round robin scheduled, but after two round robins the order of things was pretty obvious so we played another round and went on our way. Seth of Kentucky was top scorer, followed by Jim from USF and Matt from Vanderbilt. Thanks to UTK for hosting the event.

Vandy played exceptionally well, and fairly aggressively as the stats will divulge. I look forward to seeing them in Nashville for Nationals.
I had good time as well, at least part of that I must attribute to the accumulating snow throughout the day, I have not seen it snow and stick to the ground in 7 years.
Thank you UT,
