Moon Pie Mirror @ OU (4/28/2007)

The University of Oklahoma will be hosting a mirror weekend of Moon Pie (academic) and RC Cola (trash) April 28th and 29th on the OU campus. We will be using the following fee structure:

Single Event (either Moon Pie or RC Cola)

Base fee: $75 per team
-$5 per working buzzer system
-$10 per 150 miles traveled (as determined by Mapquest)

$60 minimum

Both events (1 team attending both Moon Pie and RC Cola)

Base fee: $130 per team
-$5 per working buzzer system
-$10 per 150 miles traveled (as determined by Mapquest)

$110 minimum

There are no discounts for subsequent teams entered in the same competition – the second fee structure is only for schools entering a team into both competitions. It is not necessary, however, to have the same people on the team both days.

We will also be willing to issue a discount beyond the minimum for teams who write packets and turn them in to UTC ahead of time, contingent upon UTC accepting the packets. Please inform us beforehand if you choose to do this as well.

Today, OU hosted its mirror of UTC's Moon Pie Tournament. Harding took the crown in a one-game playoff against Kansas State. Top scorers were Jason Loy of Harding, Sam Neal of KSU, David Gagne of OU, and Sean Garrett of UTD and Ryan Grabowski of OU. Thanks to all of the teams who came to OU for the tournament and thanks to UTC and the various packet writers for their work putting Moon Pie together.

I'm a little surprised to see a Kansas State team without Fidel. Any idication on why he didn't go?

Also, those scores are just crazy. A Jason Loy team ending up with 20 points TOTAL? Yech...

In regards to our games against Harding, in the first one Harding and we were going back and forth on the scores until the last two questions when they pulled ahead decisively. We were also aided by the question difficulty and a string of really easy bonuses for both sides were we were 30ing left and right. In the second game Harding just seemed really out of it as it seemed like every time I looked over at them, Jason had his buzzer on the table and was scribbling notes in his notebook while the question was being read. This probably had a lot to do with the fact that losing this game did not affect any standings at all other than their loss forcing a championship match. But a win's a win even if it feels a little hollow.

20 points = playing on a UCI packet. Enough said. Congrats to OU on that game.

I could never really tell if this tournament was supposed to be an imitation of Chicago Open or an NAQT IS-A packet. There were plenty of good individual questions, but I wasn't able to get a feel for what to expect the next round. Thanks to OU for a well-run tournament.
