Oh my...It's Academic TV quarterfinal, GDS, 1996, inexplicably 30 points down with two minutes left against Sidwell Friends and another long since forgotten foe...

Mac McGarry (host of show): British prime minister from 1916 (BUZZ)
Marcus to captain Micah Myers: DAVID HYDE PIERCE
Captain Micah Myers in heat of moment giving answer: DAVID HYDE PIERCE
Mac McGarry: No!

Yes, David Hyde Pierce, famous as Niles on NBC television program, "Frasier"

Same day, three hours later, It's Academic TV quarterfinal, GDS, 1996:

Mac McGarry: Stars with Kelsey Grammer on TV's "Frasier" (BUZZ)
Marcus to captain Micah Myers: DAVID LLOYD GEORGE
Micah: Mac, I defer to him (me).
Marcus: DAVID LLOYD GEORGE
(Mac McGarry laughs)

Best negs ever.

Which was really funny as the question went on to talk about how it was used in 5% of middle schools.

A pretty retarded one from my legendary 33 at HSNCT was in our game against Shady Side. The first tossup was on polar bears and for some reason I said "arctic bears."

Charlie, don't beat yourself up too much because I blurted out something equally atrocious at PACE:

The question was getting at Bank of America, and we were playing against Robinson. Both the Bank of America and Robinson are headquartered, so to speak, in North Carolina. When I realized what the answer was going to be, I buzzed and proudly exclaimed, "The Bank of the United States!"

Yeah, not exactly the same bank...

That should have been accepted. I actually think they prefer to be called arctic bears.

Fom HSNCT:

This from a Midwesterner playing a team from a non-infested area, and after the clue on how loud they get.

We were talking about cicadas just before the round with that question started, but for some reason our team did not to buzz in on that question.
