Berry College SE Early Bird (Sep 29, 2007)

Post by BerryCollegeBowl » Sat Sep 01, 2007 5:41 pm

To College Bowl captains, coaches, players, and friends:

Please forgive the inevitable crosspostings and out-of-date addresses.
This year's Berry College Southeastern Regional/Early Bird will be held at
Berry all day on Saturday September 29. More information will follow in the next week or two for all interested parties. Regisration fee will be
$100/team, with $5 off for a working buzzer system. This tourney is open to UNDERGRADUATE students with no more than 4 years of college-level play. However, if there is sufficient interest, "exhibition" teams and matches might also be do-able.

Joan Blackwelder is no longer at Berry, so all correspondence will have to
come through me, either through this email address or the snail-mail
address below.

Please send indications of interest to me as soon as you can, and spread
the word to other coaches, captains, etcetera you may know who are not on my list.

Many thanks,
Wade

UPDATE-- Berry College SE Early Bird (Sep 29, 2007)

Post by BerryCollegeBowl » Sat Sep 08, 2007 4:07 pm

Berry College is hosting our 38th Annual Southeastern Invitational/"Early
Bird" Tournament Saturday, September 29. Registration is still open for all
undergraduate teams. Questions will be supplied by our experienced team of writers, and will be appropriate to an early-season tournament--somewhere between CBI and ACF difficulty, closer to CBI. Registration will begin at 8a.m., and rounds to begin around 9:30-10. If your team is interested, please get in touch with me within the next week or so at wcarpenter@berry.edu or BerryCollegeBowl@gmail.com

Hope to see you all,
Wc

Update 9/14

Post by BerryCollegeBowl » Fri Sep 14, 2007 6:15 pm

Currently I have ten teams tentatively listed as coming to the Berry College Early Bird/Southeastern Invitational tournament Saturday September 29, to wit:

Berry A & B
Shorter
AUM A & B
Macon State
Dalton
South Georgia
Athens State
Wofford
Alabama

We have enough question packets for 14 teams max, so registration is still
open, on a first-come, first-served basis. Once again, this will be an
undergraduate early-season one-day tournament with questions generally about
the CBI-plus range: hard enough to be worthwhile, but straightforward enough
to be fun and high-success. This is a good one for both experienced teams
and novices. I will need to have the final list assembled by Friday, Sept
21, so please confirm with me if you're on the tentative list, and let me
know quickly if any more teams would like to enter.

Looking forward to seeing you at the nation's longest continuously-running
tournament, on the world's largest college campus (7 1/2 wild deer per
student, at last estimate, so drive carefully!).

The final list is finally final (I think).
Coming Saturday will be
Alabama A
Alabama B
Athens State
Berry A
Berry B
Dalton
Furman
Shorter
Wofford
Also, I'm told a pickup team may be available for fun rounds, and we will
have the usual all-stars versus alums rounds afterwards. We can lways usereaders and scorekeepers, who will be fed, watered, and entertained,
presumably at Schroeders. Registration will begin at 8, and one team
estimates arrival at 9, so we'll aim for opening meeting around 915, and
play to begin shortly afterward. Should be done by late afternoon.

You'll notice two Berry teams. We have had a terrific turnout this year, and we've got some hotshots. So looking forward to having a lot of fun, AND winning a lot of games (and maybe a tournament or two!)

Hope to see you Saturday,
Wc

and MAD respect to Alabama, James. Y'all were on yesterday.

That was best Berry tournament I've seen in my time here, I think. Alabama, Furman and Wofford all had some rock-solid teams.

Was this pretty much the same Alabama A team that went to ICT last year? Or new people?

Although UTC was not able to attend since it was on the same day as our high school tournament, I hope we get to see some of these other teams around the circuit this year (I'm looking at you, Wofford and Furman, let's see if we can get some more SoCon participation).

"Interestingly," individual scoring paid out awards to five places, whereas actual team results paid out only one place. The fact that Dan and Ruth finished with identical statistics was not mentioned at the awards ceremony. I am assuming that team record was used as the tiebreaker, but it may well have been alphabetical order.

In any case, I am grateful for the preparation in advance of ACF Fall's announced 2/2 college football distribution.

Also, to the UTC person: Furman's next tournament will be ACF Fall at Shorter plus the early bird. We cannot come to COTKU this year because it falls on our fall break, when many of us already had plans to go home, visit friends, et cetera. We want to go to Sword Bowl, though, so see you there.
