Sunday, October 28th, 2007
University of Maryland College Park
ANNOUNCEMENT:
The Maryland Academic Quiz Team is pleased to announce a mirror of Titanomachy, a tournament also being held at the University of Alabama. We are not very cleverly calling this tournament “Titanomachy at Maryland: Not to be Confused With TIT”. Our mirror will be taking place on Sunday, October 28th, 2007.
This is an academic tournament in vein of last year’s Penn Bowl. Questions are being written by Matt Weiner and others. There is no packet submission required for this tournament.
For the Alabama announcement, please see: http://www.hsquizbowl.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=4399
ELIGIBILITY:
This tournament is open to both college and high school teams, although there will likely not be a separate high school division. We ask that teams comprise of players all from the same school, although I may be willing to grant exceptions (please e-mail me).
PRICING:
+$100 – Base Fee for 1st team
+$90 – Base Fee for 2nd team
+$80 – Base Fee for all subsequent teams
-$5 – Working buzzer system per school
-$10 – Competent moderator per school
-$10 – Travel discount per team coming from over 200 miles one-way (as judged by Google Maps)
Minimum Fee Per Team: $65
REGISTERING:
Please e-mail me, Mike Bentley, at [email protected] to register for the tournament. Please indicate what school you’re from, how many teams you’re bringing, and any discounts you think you might qualify for.
Details on lodging, lunch, and where the tournament will be held are forthcoming.
Thanks,
Mike Bentley

I've yet to officially hear from any teams for this tournament, and it's now just 3 weeks away. If teams could let me know that they're at least interested, that would be much appreciated. Send me an e-mail or just post here.

Yeah W&M is definitely going to this with two buzzers and at least one team (probably more), but I have yet to gather a lot of info from people on who wants to go just because I was so busy with EFT, but I'll let you know.

I should have information on where the tournament is taking place on campus on Friday. Also, we will be accepting registrations at least through Wednesday of next week. Take a look at the above post for the most recent field update.

We're approaching 16 teams, which will probably have to be the cap for this tournament due to room restrictions (for various reasons, I wasn't able to reserve the rooms until pretty late in the scheme of things). If teams that still have a variable number of teams (like CMU, Leo and Whitman) could confirm with me as soon as possible how may teams they're bringing, that would be very helpful.

I've been spending some time out of the first world recently, so that probably explains it. Aruba, specifically.grapesmoker wrote:I didn't think people still got that in first world countries.Leo Wolpert wrote:Looks like I'm not going to play because I am just getting out of the hospital today after coming down with typhoid fever (not a joke).
At least I get to take Cipro for a couple weeks, and pretend I got that anthrax Tom Ridge was always warning me about back in the day.
Thanks for the well-wishes, all.

Sorry to hear that.Leo Wolpert wrote:Looks like I'm not going to play because I am just getting out of the hospital today after coming down with typhoid fever (not a joke).
Assuming your team isn't showing up etiher, that means we still have one slot open if a team wants to register. If not, we'll probably try to add a third house team so that no one has to have a bye.
By the way, if you're in the DC area and free on Sunday, we would very much appreciate help moderating. Just shoot me an e-mail if you're interested.

Titanomachy at Maryland is now over. The prelim stats are available here. Playoff stats will be up later tonight.
I believe the final standings were like this:
Maryland A (Chris, Jonathan, Jeremy)
Rutgers New Brunswick / Princeton
Maryland C (Charles et al)
Temple
Thanks to all the teams who came out for this Sunday tournament. Also thanks to all of the moderators who helped out, especially people like Andrew Lim, John Gilbert, and Arthur Flemming who came and staffed pro bono.

I'd just like to remind everyone that the set will be used next week for a tournament in Minnesota, so please do not discuss the questions in public until then.
If you noticed any errors (other than a few things that obviously came up during the day already) that you think I should correct before Minnesota uses the set, please email me directly.
