Create yourself, your team, and your tourneys on the QBwiki

Post by theMoMA »

Posting a new thread for greater visibility. There are a lot of pages already created on the new wiki, and for the most part, we're trying to keep the outer facade of the pages informational.

There are all sorts of notable individuals, programs, tournaments, and in-jokes that don't even have pages yet. If you want a page on the wiki, you can't expect anyone else to make it but yourself (if only to keep the information truthful and relevant).

Keep in mind when creating pages that there are templates that you should use. If you don't get everything perfectly, don't worry. But you should look at a page similar to the one you're trying to create to see what categories and templates that you should be using.

In case you haven't bookmarked it yet, the new QBWiki can be found at http://doc-ent.com/qbwiki/index.php?title=Main_Page

I think it's nice that people are including actual information on the wiki now, but losing our hilarious and ridiculous satire would be a blow from which I doubt quizbowl could ever recover. I'm distressed that articles aren't showing enough shenanigans and hope this will change.

Weiner was hoping to program in a "Humor" tab to each article to preserve such jokes.

Also, will there eventually be a way to upload question sets on the various tournament pages? I remember that was one of the ideas thrown out there a while ago.

Maybe a moderator could link the wiki on the main hsquizbowl page so that its page rank increases in Google. It's currently below an empty Wikia project.

I will do this, but only as long as we can keep the most popular parts of the wiki appropriate for everyone to use--"Laffo! Dan Passner is a Jewish!" and stuff like that is fine when everyone involved knows each other, but is really off-putting to random high school coaches. I've edited the front page accordingly.

Maybe there should be a "this page contains humor that may not be suitable for all people" tag to stick at the top of some pages?

Lies!
That page taught me that "homosexing" is a word, so hopefully all future perusers can have this positive effect on their lives.
