QB'er on Jeopardy tonight

Post by The Goffman Prophecies »

Probably a little late to catch it on the East Coast, but Jason Thweatt, coach of the Va Tech team is playing tonight against a 5-game winner.

$800 difference heading into Final Jeopardy; both look pretty evenly matched.

My brother couldn't understand why I found it to be so funny. I was really hoping for the champ to miss it too, but alas.

I thought I recognized him. Too bad the Final Jeopardy was complete and utter garbage, even by Jeopardy standards.

OK, so my curiosity is piqued. Can somebody please post this? (I guess I can wait until 8 PT/11 ET, though, for the West Coast fans...)

It was something like:

Aviation History
This man was the 100something (I think 181st) man to fly across the Atlantic Ocean.

Answer here

I don't see how it's a "hose." What answer really came to mind there? I guess the tidbit about Lindbergh's solo and nonstop status being his actual mark of distinction is not as well known as I thought, but it seemed like a pretty standard Jeopardy "figure it out" question.

I also share this opinion. I thought it was obvious that there was a little trick to it considering they didn't mention solo/nonstop.

Isn't this a famous trivia question? I've read it in books before. Seems lazy.

That's better. Hose isn't quite right, but that was the first description I thought of for the taste the question left in my mouth.

Same here - it felt like something close to a hose.

The first thought that went through my head was "Lindbergh? It's gotta be. But no, it can't be that easy."

I'm willing to bet that's what went through the contestants' heads as well.

It's a horrid question ..... but to be honest ... who the heck else is it?

It has to be an individual ..... as if it was someone flying in a group, you couldn't delineate this person being eexactly the 118th ..... so start thinking ...

males

solo flights

Atlantic.

This might even be too tough for hte NAC.

I didn't know it, but I would never put ? as a FJ answer. Therefore, for an aviation question, I'd put either Lindbergh or Earhart. In this case, it's a guy. So had I been on the show, I would've written in Lindbergh and waited for the song to finish so I could lose my money.

That was a horrible final jeopardy question. Still, he put up a respectable performance. Shame he didn't guess Lindbergh, thats what I was thinking. I can see why it seems too easy. Better than Glenn though.

Let me also vote for this opinion. I had it before Alex was done reading.

I hate to criticize Jason because I thought he did a good job. But had I hit a Daily Double on a literature category, I'd bet more than $1200.

It was nice to see a quizbowler on the show. The number of adult contestants with quizbowl background has taken a bit of a dive since Ken. (And did you know you have to declare all QB affiliations when you tryout so they can weed us out?)

The folks at J! must not complete be against QB, because Jason's interview consisted of he and Alex talking about his affiliation with the Va Tech team and a very general overview of the college circuit.

There's still some. But I feel like I see the "QB-er on Jeopardy tonight" message a whole lot less than I used to.
