Post by Bigfoot isn't the pr »

Buzzers: -$5 each for working buzzers

Travel: -$10 per team for each 200 miles travelled

New quizbowl teams (your school did not send a team to any regular collegiate academic tournament between September 2005 and January 2008, AND no one on the team claiming this discount played those tournaments for another school) -$100 per team
Minimum fee for a school: $0

INFO

ACF Regionals will be held on Saturday, February 16, 2008.

Information for those required to write packets is at http://www.hsquizbowl.org/regionals2008.html .

Regionals this year will display a SIGNIFICANT drop in difficulty from the past few years. While it will not be quite as easy as ACF Fall, it will be emblematic of "regular difficulty" in quizbowl rather than any hypothetical "Regionals difficulty." It may compare roughly in difficulty and style to Penn Bowl 2007. With that in mind, coupled with an initiative to get teams who only played College Bowl or Honda in the past to attend this tournament, I hope to see teams display interest in regions which did not have ACF Regionals sites in 2007, as well as in the traditional locations.

I thought so too. So much for the rebirth of the Mid-Atlantic.

I'm fairly sure VCU will be coming... although Andrew won't be there so we'll likely suck.

Penn will be there pretty much for sure if that's worth anything...I'd hate to get last in a 3-team field though...

Make sure you e-mailed markpell at udel dot edu with that information. Last time I heard we were up to 6 teams, 2 from MD, and 2 each from two other school that slip my mind.

Here's a much improved field update:

Currently:

* 2 Maryland
* 1-2 from Swarthmore
* 1+ from University of Pennsylvania
* 1 from Temple
* 1 from CMU
* 1 from VCU
* 1-2 house teams, depending on staffing.

In case the message didn't get through, Maryland is only sending 1 team to this tournament.

As of the meeting last night, here was the expected field:

CMU
Delaware House team(s) (2 if an appropriate number of packets exist, 1 if not)
Maryland
Penn A
Penn B
Temple
VCU

If this is not correct, we need to know, well, now.

Of more concern was that they didn't have the questions yet and didn't know when they are coming. Would someone in charge please communicate to them about this?

If someone has the questions, I wouldn't mind a copy sent to charterquiz at gmail dot com as a backup plan. Thanks.

Bill, on behalf of Delaware ACC.

As updated to TDs in a very recent e-mail, questions will be going out this evening (not tomorrow morning!).

Thanks to Delaware for hosting this tournament. Things ran pretty well and we did 12 rounds in a pretty good time frame.

I would like to express my frustration that this event only drew 6 teams, however. This hasn't just been a problem at ACF Regionals, either. It seems like a lot of teams in the Midatlantic Circuit are for unknown reasons skipping out on tournaments that they know will be well edited and that will not be very far away for some reason. This is probably the 3rd or 4th tournament this year where some of the better teams on the Midatlantic circuit haven't shown up, which kind of sucks.

Incidentally, for those who care:

The setup was that Delaware and Maryland broke their teams into two for an 8-team round robin, after which they recombined for a 6 team round-robin (with the exception of Charles, who joined a lonely Trevor Davis to fill out CMU's team). Out of this muck, Maryland's only loss came to itself in the first round-robin; CMU(+Meigs), Temple, and Penn A all ended 7-5, and Delaware and Penn B were fifth and sixth. As I'm sure surprises no one, Jonathan, who played solo for the first round robin, was top scorer.

I agree with Mike here. There were 5 schools there, which I am pretty sure is the smallest school turn-out I've ever seen in my four years of QB. I may not be as informed about the current college situation on the Mid-Atlantic, but for a while it seemed like we wouldn't be getting enough teams to host a semi-significant tournament.

Did you use something other than SQBS, or is this just SQBS with a stylesheet applied?

There are pretty much errors in the indiviudal stats for each of our rounds, but whatever, they don't make a big difference in the long run.

Just applied our CSS to the SQBS code.
