(Correct) Answers that made you hang your head in shame.
Plays you're embarrassed you made
For all of the correct answers you somehow wish you hadn't gotten because it made you feel embarrassed in one way or another.
For example, I once powered the Order of the Phoenix when given the address it is located at. Other ones include powering a question on Magic: The Gathering and questions about Grey's Anatomy.

(Correct) Answers that made you hang your head in shame.
This thread is for all of the correct answers that you feel embarrassed to have given.
For example, I have powered questions on:
the Order of The Phoenix, given the address of its location
Magic: The Gathering, given extensions
Rihanna
Various random TV things such as Grey's Anatomy, Desperate Housewives.
All-in-all I feel somehow worse as a Quiz Bowl player for having gotten these toss-ups as early as I did.

In the mists of time, Joe Wright and I played as a duo in a trash tournament. We were playing the Princeton team featuring the Stewart family (replete with kids.)
The question on 'Debbie Does Dallas' was answered by the Mormon mother of three, Jen Stewart. I'm not sure who should be ashamed of what with this one.
I made up for this many years later for knowing 'bra size' ahead of a team of four females.

Academic answers usually aren't shameful, unless you're getting them off of trash clues. I will say I got the "scrotum" question at ACF Regionals perhaps earlier than I should have. Will Run PACE for Reese's wrote:Notes that so far, most of the answers have come from pop culture questions.

Re: (Correct) Answers that made you hang your head in shame.
Worst one that I pulled that I can think of...
The OU team used to practice in the TV lounge in our dorm but had to wait until the "Days of Our Lives" crew cleared out before we could start practice. One day we walked in and witnessed a blond-haired woman with green eyes floating in space. We thought maybe they'd given up Days of Our Lives for some sci-fi movie, but they quickly corrected us, "That's Marlena. She's possessed by the devil."
At CBI regionals 2 or 3 weeks later, the first six words of the tossup were "Marlena is possessed by the devil..."
The table nearly broke in half as the four-guy Oklahoma lineup all slammed the buzzers at the same time. I got in and got to answer "Days of Our Lives."
There is no shame, only points.
Louis Gill outdid me, however, when he buzzed in after hearing (wording approximate) that its inventor lived to be 90-something despite eating a pound of this every day. I'm not sure what I was expecting Louis to say, but I do have to say that "petroleum jelly" was not on that list. All of us were tempted to deck Louis until we figured out that he had, in fact, been correct.

Re: (Correct) Answers that made you hang your head in shame.
My coach always says "points is points."
But, I think the telling thing about an embarrassing answer is when your teammates: a) stare at you, dumbfounded. b) call you "gay" for the rest of the tournament. c) slide their desk/chair away from you.
Although "points is points," sometimes it's just damn funny.

Wow, I totally want to play packets with Jenna Jameson in them. So basically a good portion of my powers are shameless pop culture (e.g. Britney Spears, Hannah Montana, Wysteria Lane, etc.). In fact, my first power ever was on a Britney Spears question (it mentioned something about writing the theme song for her sister's nickelodeon show, back when Jamie Lynn wasn't famous). I guess other insane powers include Gwen Stefani, Amy Winehouse, & the traveling pants (as in The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants). There are countless others because any guess you may make about the amount of tv I watch would be a gross underestimation, but I'm too lazy to list them all. I suppose I cannot say that these answers made me hold my head in shame because when it comes to shameless pop culture, I am as proud of it as your parents are of your crappy little crayon drawing on the fridge.

My friend on the team last year had an incredibly short buzz on Desperate Housewives (seems a common point of shame here). To add to it, he declared he loved it and it was one of his favorite shows, further explaining it was because he felt it had great characterization and plot development. (He also got a Teletubbies question at another tournament, can't remember where right off.) I personally got one of the few bridge questions on the date (early into the first line), but then again I'm a crazed Civil Engineering major.

Balance of academic and TRASH. Even if you didn't practice TRASH though, most likely someone's answer here would be a trash question in an academic/all-around set (and ya, there are some pretty trashy NAQT questions). No one is gonna say that answering a toss-up on the Battle of Monmouth or thirtying a bonus on recent unrest in Kenya had them hang their head in shame (unless the person knew those things from some really trashy or nerdy source...which I doubt they'd share anyways).Athena Starwoman wrote:What on earth do you practice on, trash tournaments?

Re: (Correct) Answers that made you hang your head in shame.
I don't think I have ever missed a tossup regarding "Bring it On".
Though I think my most shameful (perhaps best buzz) ever was by getting Balistics Ecks vs Sliver on the first clue at Trashionals 2007

Oh my God, me too! Was this at a tournament at UGA a couple years ago? Whenever I tell people about it, they think, "oh, she got it because the first given track title was 'The Audience With Boss Nass'," but its really because I listen to film scores. Admittedly, it could have started out with something without character names like "Passage Through the Planet Core" or "Augie's Great Municipal Band".
And, yes, horrible movie. A certain team mate of mine thinks its the best thing ever, though.

I knew every answer to the Powerpuff Girls villains bonus. Mojo Jojo, Fuzzy Lumkins, and The Gangrene Gang, I think.

I wonder if there's ever been a multi-part bonus on that "Beat-Alls" episode...
