CO Trash?

Post by yoda4554 »

I mentioned I'd be interested in chipping in for writing this in the general CO thread, but as the other side tournaments are making their own threads, I suppose this should have its own, too. Is there interest in it happening at all? Has a general editor come forward? If not, are there several people interested in jointly writing/editing the set?

I would be interested in playing in this tournament, but less interested in editing this tournament as I'll be writing another trash tournament the month before.

I believe Matt Weiner still owes people a trash tournament, so, uh, maybe he could do it?

I think I heard from Matt that he is working on a trash tournament but doesn't want to announce until he's sure it will be finished.

I think you just announced it!

Here's the deal: Right now, I am finishing up Fake ICT for the first sites running it on Saturday. Then, I have to do my part of ACF Nationals, and finish editing this year's PACE NSC. After that, I will start writing a trash tournament. If the trash tournament is *entirely done* far enough in advance of Chicago Open that I can still expect to get teams, staff, a slot on the schedule, and so on in the time between the completion of the tournament and CO weekend, then I will try to do so. If someone else steps up to do the CO Trash event this year in the intervening time, then so be it. I'll use my event for something later in the summer or fall. As I said last summer, entering the event will be entirely free to anyone who was affected by my fuckup in 2007, regardless of when/how it ends up being held, and if your school sent an entire team of people to Fiasco Bowl, you can in fact HOST my replacement trash tournament and keep all the money if you wish.

Given all that, I think the best idea would be for Dave to go ahead with coordinating a CO Trash event, and I'll still write mine over April and May and have it available. If for some reason the other trash tournament doesn't come together, I'll have one ready to go as a replacement; more likely, the other trash tournament will happen, we'll all have a grand old time playing it, and I'll run mine later on in the year.

Perhaps a Packet Sub type event would be best?

I'd be willing to write a packet for this. Packet sub trash tournaments generally run into more repeat and unusable question problems than regular tournaments, but they would probably make it at least a little easier for the editors.

It would seem to me that having Matt's tournament at CO would be the most efficient way to recompense the people who didn't get to play last time, but obviously I'll yield to whatever Matt's wishes are on that front. I'd also be happy to contribute to Matt's tournament, though if his sense of ethics insist that he do it alone, that's also fine. Since there also has to be a trash tourney produced for the 24 hours of qb, producing two tournaments this summer can't really go wrong anyway.

If I am going to be in charge of this, I'd actually rather write it centrally over the course of a few months than have to frantically edit a bunch of stuff about which I may not know much at the last minute. But I wouldn't do a terribly good job of it alone, unless people are looking forward to every packet having among its sports bonuses "Name these members of the 199_ New York Knicks roster" and every video game tossup being on text-based Sierra adventure games c. 1990 (edit: not to mention the low likelihood of me physically being in attendance at CO to run the thing).

Assuming that this is the plan (i.e., that Matt doesn't want to just claim CO Trash for the purpose of reimbursing everyone), do I have takers for people to make up my inadequacies on sports, video games, and, well, everything since 1998? Email me at dletzler [at] temple [dot] edu or post here if you do.

I assume from what Mike posted earlier that the packet he offered only would come for packet-submit; Fred, was that packet offered as freelance or as a packet-submitting player?

You know what, what the hell. I'll edit the videogames and the recent stuff. I'm no good on sports though.

And by edit I mean write.

In general, I suck at trash, but I wouldn't mind helping out in my niche areas, writing/editing some other stuff, and reading at the tournament.
