Dorman HS NAQT "Season Ender" - (5/10/08)

Post by Eric Huff »

On May 10, 2008 Dorman High School will be hosting the First Annual "Season Ender" NAQT tournament.

Unlike our January tournament, we are shooting for a small tournament with a tentative field cap of 42 teams. Depending on interest, we are hoping to have three divisions: Varsity, JV, and Middle School. NAQT will be providing the questions (set 71A), which we think will be both accessible for beginning teams/players and challenging for more experienced teams.

Registration is $60 per team before April 13, and $75 per team after April 13. There are no limits to how many teams a school may enter.

If you are interested in registering or if you have questions, please email me ([email protected])

Thanks!

agreed. I believe this conflicts directly with IB and AP exams...

unfortunately, there's not much one can do about that in the month of may

sorry, I spoke too soon. I checked the schedule and looks like no ap or ib test dates fall on the 10th. hopefully this will be a nice break in the midst of all that testing then. =)

I assume this is still on? Robinson is very interested in attending with at least one team, especially since we were so cruelly prohibited from attending back in January.

Absolutely. Paper invitations went out to all SC schools with our state championship mailout. We will get the mailout to non-SC schools sent in the next week. We hope to see a strong turn-out, and we hope that this will give teams a second chance to come to Dorman who were snowed out of our January tournament.

Christian Academy of Knoxville really wants to come, but our varsity has used the #71 A packet. Just verifying that you are using that. I'll probably still bring a JV team. Sara Baker

We are definitely still using NAQT 71A.

We're still a couple weeks away, but here is a preliminary field list. Right now, JV and Middle School are separate divisions, but we might combine them.

JV

Boiling Springs x 2
Chapman
Chattahoochee
Shelby (NC)
West Oak

Middle School
Mauldin Middle × 3
D.R. Hill

Varsity

Boiling Springs x 2
Chapman
Chattahoochee (GA)
Gaffney
James Island
North Myrtle Beach
Onslow County (NC)
Shelby (NC)

There's still plenty of time to register. If you're interested, email me (huffej @ spart6.org)

Thanks,

Congrats to Central Gwinnet for winnig the varsity division. Again another impressive showing by a young Southside jv team after facing even harder questions at NAQT SC and now sweeping another tourney WOW, they truly will be a force to be reckoned with nationally next year. P.S NMB could not attend due to AP exam conflicts, hey Southside u guys should come on over to Horry county and play any tourneys NMB or Horry county might host North Myrtle Beach would love to play you guys

We would have gone to this tournament, but we had AP conflicts, and our coach wanted us to study for NAC. Good job by Central Gwinnett for winning that tournament. Next year, mrfoster, we might have a tournament here at James Island, but it takes a lot to prepare

The last time we held it (2006), there were a lot of Lowcountry and Midlands teams there (like Edisto, Carvers Bay), and it would be good to reach out and prepare to become a better team.

Nice job trying to prep up quiz bowl in Horry County, which already has Socastee, but they haven't gone to many meets this year.

To clarify Socastee finished 7th out of 9 teams at our county championship tourney, as we have a 9 game season for our county and we choose who we play during the regular season. Socastee had the weakest schedule deciding to play teams in our county that average 35 pts a game then finally when they made the playoffs they won their first game of the playoff brackets against Conway (weakest team in the county, Socastee was a #2 seed). Socastee then proceded to play us were while we were a #5 seed we slaughtered them 370-20. So honestly if you think about it strength of schedule has a huge impact in qb. We are losing only 2 people next year as i and the other impact players are currently jr's, so we might be re-vitalizied and be better to qualify fo the HSNCT and we will travel more often as I convinced my coach for us to travel to about 3-4 tourneys next year.
