ANNOUNCEMENT - BASQUE - UC Berkeley - 7/19/08(?)

Post by unnecessarily hot »

Hi everyone,

This year I will be serving as TD for our annual BASQUE tournament, the mirror of the Chicago Open and its accompanying side tournaments. This is a very tentative announcement (albeit a late one, I admit.) BASQUE is slated to be held on July 19, 2008 (the same weekend as the Chicago Open), though this is negotiable.

While I haven't gotten a hold of all the side tournament editors yet, I want to see who is interested in playing a mirror of the CO, and the other tournaments. For now the side tournaments include: Trash, Literature doubles, History doubles, social science/philosophy doubles, and a movies packet. Again, I haven't reached an agreement with all the editors yet, this is merely to check interest levels.

A tentative entry fee for the CO would be $120/team.

Please e-mail me (scpham AT berkeley DOT edu), or respond in this thread letting me know if you're interested ASAP! Thanks!

Hi everyone!

I’m happy to announce that UC Berkeley’s annual mirror of the Chicago Open
(CO announcement:
viewtopic.php?f=8&t=5736), BASQUE, is a
go.

This tournament will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2008, in Barrows Hall
on UC Berkeley’s campus (http://berkeley.edu/map/). Teams will meet at
9:00 AM in 155 Barrows. Play will hopefully begin at 9:30 AM.

Fee Structure
CO: $120/team, (-$10/buzzer)
Trash: $100/team, (-$10 per volunteer that moderates for CO or other
side-tournaments, should they happen)
Other side tournaments: TBA

Current field (Tentative)
UCI (1 team, possibly 2 or 3)
Stanford (1 team, possibly more)
Berkeley (1 team, possibly more)
Free agents (I have received e-mails from a couple of people who would
like to play)
Caltech (has expressed some interest)

Mixed teams will be allowed. The more the merrier. Anyone who would like
to play is welcome.

A full schedule has yet to be written, but expect to finish in the early
evening. Based on current interest, I think it’s safe to say that the
TRASH tournament written by Andrew Yaphe will be played.

There is also a mirror of a history doubles tournament written by Bruce
Arthur (viewtopic.php?f=8&t=5220) that is
up in the air, as well as a movies packet written by Yogesh and Ray
(viewtopic.php?f=8&t=5747), should there
be enough interest in it. Please let me know of any interest in these
tournaments!

Please e-mail me (scpham AT berkeley DOT edu) if you have any questions or
concerns.

OK, I'm a moron. I've e-mailed this to QB-WC, but if you haven't caught it, here's a second announcement I've made:

So, it's come to my attention that more people may be interested in the
other side tournaments. In which case, it may be sensible to hold the
tournaments over the course of two days (7/19-20, Saturday-Sunday). If
this were the case, both days would start at 9AM and probably end sometime
in the early evening.

Would this be preferable (or impossible) for anyone? Again, this is
predicated upon your guys' interest in this...so, some of my more pressing
questions:

- About how many people from your camp are interested in coming to BASQUE?
- Would you be fine with playing a two day tournament?
- If not, what side-tournament (again, the side tournaments slated
to be mirrored so far are: Trash, History, & Movies) would you prefer to
play on Saturday along with the CO?

Thanks all. Once I gather responses I will let you know what the final
verdict is. I apologize for not asking this before making the official
announcement...and I also am sorry for the probable flood of e-mails that
you will be receiving from me in the near future.

Trash: $100/team, (-$10 per volunteer that moderates for CO or other
side-tournaments, should they happen)
