Unfortunately that's OU-Texas weekend so lots of people will be in Dallas, but we'll try to send a team.

We have a tentative arrangement to mirror the Illinois Open on Saturday November 15th. We have also put in a bid to host TRASH Regionals, so hopefully we can have a full quiz bowl weekend for everybody.

Could one of the moderators change the thread name to reflect the date change? Thanks.

Cheers!
Angelo

Hey, this sounds pretty cool. Are you guys planning on allowing a Northeast or New England Mirror?

You might want to email Trygve Meade at [email protected], considering this is slated to be a mirror of IO.

You should host one at Brandeis, dude. E-mail me if you're interested or talk to me about it on IRC.

Other good decision, Feldman, would be to host it on a date that is not itself 11/15. Because, y'know, Harvard will be hosting the HFT then. (And a few MIT players have volunteered to help out.) So you'd be down a few teams.

Official Tournament Announcement

Post by jazzerpoet »

This is the official tournament announcement for the Golden Hurricane Open IV, to be held in Chapman Hall at the University of Tulsa on Saturday November 15th, 2008. This tournament will be a mirror of the Illinois Open, to be held on the same day at the University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign.

This will be an open tournament, so anyone who wishes to compete may do so. However, hybrid or mixed-affiliation teams will not be allowed, unless granted permission by me. Also, we are tentatively capping the field at sixteen teams. Additionally, packet submission is NOT required to compete; all of the questions are being written in-house at UIUC.

Now, for the important stuff...

Fees and Discounts
Base Fee: $100 (per team)
Operational Buzzer Discount: -$10 (no limit)
Travel Discount: -$5/per 75 miles (max of -$25)
Volunteer Discount: -$10 (only if we use them)
Minimum Fee: $70 (per team)

To register, or if you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please feel free to contact me. Also, if finances are an issue, please let me know, and we will work something out.

I hope to see many of you in Tulsa in November. Until then...

Thanks.
Cheers!

K-State will probably bring a team to this. Is there any chance the RMP side event will be mirrored as well?

Sam, could you either post here or e-mail me with your e-mail address, so that I can add you to my contacts list? Thanks.

Also, the RMP side event will be held after the main tournament on Saturday evening.

Results

Post by jazzerpoet »

Nine teams from seven universities competed at GHO IV, a mirror of the Illinois Open. And in the end, Missouri State, led by Jason Loy, emerged victorious, having defeated Oklahoma A in the finals. Tulsa defeated Oklahoma State B for third place.

We would like to thank all of the teams who competed and the guys at UIUC for writing a difficult, yet enjoyable, question set.

Stats can be viewed on our Tournaments page:

Thanks.

I gotta ask- why were there 10 people on the Tulsa team? was it that people just showed up at varying times of the day or were 10 people there the entire time?

If I had to guess, I'd say that since they were hosting, they probably had all the staffers rotate in and out so they could each play a few rounds.

Yup. Did the same thing at Trash regionals the next day as well.
