FAcT (9/27/08) at Yale (New Haven, CT)
Yale Student Academic Competitions is pleased to announce that the 4th annual Fall Academic Tournament (FAcT) will take place on Yale's campus on September 27, 2008. The tournament, which will be untimed, will be run on NAQT A-level packets and using NAQT rules. Teams that finish in the top fifteen percent of the field will automatically qualify for NAQTs 2008 High School Nation Championship Tournament. The tournament will use an NAQT A-level packet set, for which we have geographic exclusivity for the states of Connecticut, Rhode Island, and New York. Of the two high school tournaments that Yale hosts each year, FAcT is a little more relaxed, and is a great fall tune-up. We hope to see you there.
Fee Structure:
$75 per team, with a $5 discount for each additional team from the same high school
$10 discount for each working buzzer system
$5 discount for each moderator
Minimum fee with all discounts: $60 per team
To register, or for any information, please contact me at [email protected], or Aaron Sin at [email protected]
We look forward to seeing you on the 27th.
Sincerely,
Michael Bilow
President, Yale Student Academic Competitions
P.S., We plan to hold Bulldog High School Academic Tournament (BHSAT) XVII on in Spring 2009. BHSAT is entirely written and edited by Yale Student Academic Competitions, and regularly attracts teams from across the nation. We will let you know more details (including, but not limited to, an exact date) later this fall.

Some people from Ward Melville High School are looking into coming. They should be posting here soon, but if not, they should e-mail the TD if interested.

I have to check/scramble, but due to MANIAC cancellation I may try to make this competition.

EDIT:
Pretty underhanded for E.O. Smith to put their A team as their C team.

Hey, once again, I'd like to "request" that people stop throwing a fit and accusing people of cheating every time a non-A team does well at something.TheCzarMan wrote:Pretty underhanded for E.O. Smith to put their A team as their C team.

Re: FAcT (9/27/08) at Yale (New Haven, CT)
I agree with Matt for a couple of reasons
1. With NAQT A level questions, strange results are the norm
2. This was an early year tournament, it's quite possible E.O. Smith didn't realize who their best players were
3. A teams have lost to their own lower level teams (Eden Prairie, TJ, and I'm sure a bunch of other schools)
4. And even if they did intentionally switch their teams around, this forum isn't the right place to call other teams out.

Re: FAcT (9/27/08) at Yale (New Haven, CT)
Hi,
I apologize for all the commotion caused by our naming antics. As my team members stated before their individual games, the naming process was completely arbitrary and random. the make up of individual teams were decisions of the head coach and I, the assistant coach. As for the designation of the teams, as I said, it was completely random it was our belief that each of the three teams should start at the same level for evaluation purposes; it can be stated that we will possibly employ this practice until the Nationals.
Again, we apologize to the other teams that had been confused or misdirected by our naming conventions.
Thank you

Are there full results somewhere (as in prelim matches/individual scoring). The prelim matches would be for the Byko rankings, the individual scoring just for personal interest.

Re: FAcT (9/27/08) at Yale (New Haven, CT)
that is a good question, I would like to find out more details about the results as well...
btw, the final result of the tournament was that EOS C defeated Newtown, not the other way around.
Thanks
