Liveblogging my trip to NSC with Max Schindler

In an attempt to uphold a fine Chicago tradition, I will be chronicling my NSC journey with Max. I would like to acknowledge Ben Zhang, without whose scheduling prowess this would not be possible.

Max also has some choice words for Ben Zhang. Quote: "They rhyme with 'meet a hick.'" Fuck Ben Zhang.

On bus to O'Hare now. Quick recap to follow.
3:40 I text Max to tell him our flight is on time. His response: "What sort of just God would make one of His creations get up at this time."

3:55: Max promises I will gaze into the face of despair sometime en route to the airport.
Max is also very, very grumpy and has adopted a thick Yiddish accent. Many "oys."

3:58: Max threatens to leave me after I note that I may not have my bus fare card. Fortunately, I owe him money and say I'll only give it to him after we get through security.
As I write this post, Max Schindler regales me with the story about how he lent Matt Jackson a dollar for pizza at VCU Open and then did not demand interest when he collected at OPPEN.

On the bus, I eat my bagel and Max eats his pop tarts. Max: "See, this is an interesting role reversal since I'm Jewish and you're white trash."

We're now waiting at the Blue Line.
4:32 Max was very happy to get off at the (Matt) Jackson Street stop.

I try to discuss Mo Yan with Max. I tell him I really liked Red Sorghum but that Big Breasts and Wide Hips dragged on a bit. Max: "That's unsurprising. They seem like the sort of things that would slow you down."

We stand in the wrong check-in line for five minutes because I'm in hysterics over Max's drivers liscense photo. Imagine Anton Chirgurh, but with glasses and bad facial hair. And not badass.

The only redeeming quality of driving across Indiana (something OSU did just about every weekend we weren't going to Michigan) is the plethora of Arby's in that state.

False, there are literally zero redeeming qualities to driving through Indiana.

I'd ordinarily agree, because I hate it so much, but there's an Arby's at almost every exit, and I'm frequently thinking Arby's.

Yeah, the Indiana part of the 94 between Michigan to Illinois is the worst part of the drive

While Indiana is certainly terrible, don't diss this stretch of highway - it was redeemed for me last year when I was told by...someone from Michigan? Maybe Lafer? about this excellent establishment which I have since used to interrupt the otherwise interminable drive.

"Mike Sorice is the kind of guy who, when you're passing by a sign saying Welcome to Indianapolis, Indiana, will insist you're in Ohio, and then when you object will give you a fifteen minute summary of a supposed 'class on Midwestern geography' he took in college to prove his point."
