HSQBRank Game - match the adjustments to the set

Post by AKKOLADE »

I'm going to have a ridiculous week and probably won't get the rankings posted until this weekend. To try to keep you all at bay, here's a list of the tournaments I'm using and the adjustment values I'm using.

However, because I will need distraction, I'm going to leave it up to you all to figure out as a community which value correlates with which set.

Image

Remember that the harder a set is, the higher and more positive the number is. At the same time, the easier it is, the lower a number it is. I have set normal IS sets as 0, so the closer you are to this (either positive or negative), the closer to that difficulty it is.

Have fun, knock yourselves out. I'll answer questions as I can.

I originally thought this post meant that A-sets would have a bonus adjustment of 8.64 (didn't read the text). I am not a smart man.

alright, so as a college student who didn't play in HS, I have no idea what any of the HS tournaments are. Having said that, I'll guess that Terrapin is the hardest and ACF Fall the second hardest, since those seem to be the only college tournaments there. I'll also guess that MSNCT is the easiest (although I actually don't know whether the middle school NCT is supposed to be easier than easy high school sets).

As far as I can tell (and correct me if I'm wrong), six sets advertised as something easier than regular HS difficulty - SCOP, HSAPQ Novice, Penn Novice, SMART, NAQT's A-sets, and MSNCT. There are six numbers more negative than 2 after a large gap between -2 and ~-0.5. If those six sets aren't those six numbers, somebody's got some 'splainin to do.

I'll put down a bet that MSNCT is the -3.5 (or harder) and SCOP's the -5. Not just to be interesting and contrarian, but to reflect the audiences of the sets and how they'd likely end up doing on other sets.

I'll also make the guess that HFT isn't in the top-3 hardest sets. (Which is really just to say "not 3rd," because Terrapin and ACF Fall surely are #1 and #2.) I could see SSNCT or a housewrite sneak ahead of it.

Omitting Northmont, a set with which I am not familiar, my best guess for this is something like:

Terrapin, ACF Fall, VTACO, HFT, SSNCT, Delta Burke, GSAC, Columbia, WHAQ, BASQT, LIST, SCOP, SMART, Penn Novice, HSAPQ Novice, A Set, MSNCT16

My guesses:

1. Terrapin
2. ACF Fall
3. HFT
4. Delta Burke
5. SSNCT 16
6. Columbia
7. BASQT
8. GSAC
9. Northmont
10. VTACO
11. WHAQ
12. LIST
13. SMART
14. Penn Novice
15. SCOP
16. A-Set
17. HSAPQ Novice
18. MSNCT 16

*Based on recently posted stats, BHSAT seems to be pretty difficult in terms of bonus conversion. I'm gonna predict at least a +2.5 adjustment value.

While I'm not going to try and rank all of these sets, I can attest to one thing to help with other people's rankings:

Having had the rare opportunity to play both, I can say with near certainty that the 2016 SSNCT set is certainly not as hard as the GSAC set. To what degree the latter is harder than the former I can't say with any sort of specificity, but I can say this much at least.

I know that my look at the early use of BASQT implied it was likely to play relatively hard, however it wasn't used before February 4, so I'm surprised it's on here at all.
