Groger Ranks 2020-21

With last weekend’s Scottie Online mirror marking the beginning of the high school season, it is time to officially announce our plans and intentions for the upcoming year.
As is to be expected, we are slightly adjusting our rankings from last season. All stats from online tournaments will now be included, since it looks like a majority if not the entirety of the season will need to be run online due to the ongoing pandemic. If the second semester can be run entirely in person, we may revisit this stance, but as of now all online tournaments run on HS regs or harder with powers and bonuses will be counted in the rankings.
We expect the rankings to be published with around the same frequency as the past few years.
As for our non-rankings work, we look forward to running polls and hosting podcasts as normal. We have recently added Arthur Delot-Vilain to the Groger Ranks team to focus specifically on podcasts and analysis work, so hopefully we will be able to produce more content this season even with the strangeness of it all. With Arthur, we’re excited to continue our Interview Thursday episodes from last year, hopefully with more regularity.
With the entire season being online, we understand the importance of schools hosting their own online tournaments to pay for expenses that normally would have been covered by hosting in-person tournaments. As a result, we will not be reserving any sets to mirror during the season. If there are no plans to mirror a set in a certain region but teams still wish to play the set, we will be more than glad to step in as tournament organizers. Email us at [email protected] if this is the case for your region and we will try to work out a solution.
Now that we are officially a registered LLC in the state of Ohio, we are ready to announce our tournament outreach fund, a project that is many months in the making. All revenue from tournaments, whether this year’s or last year’s, will go towards our tournament outreach fund for the 2020-21 school year. Prospective hosts of tournaments can apply for a grant to cover their costs using this form: https://forms.gle/WsF7RfF1XiuyX7as7. We hope that our official status will allow us to more easily conduct transactions involving school administrations. We will try to get up a forums post with more information about the outreach fund in the near future.
If you have any more questions relating to Groger Ranks this season or feedback/requests for what else we can offer the community, either email us at [email protected] or fill out this feedback form: https://forms.gle/tUvqxjRrsyLYiRpr9.
This season will be a strange one, unlike any that we have ever experienced before. We here at Groger Ranks look forward to offering whatever we can in order to ease the experience as much as possible.
Sincerely,
- The Groger Ranks team
