Darien Quizbowl is pleased to announce our Spring Tournament.
Location. Darien Spring will take place on March 5th, 2022 on-site at Darien High School, located at 80 High School Ln, Darien, CT 06820. More detailed directions will be sent after teams have registered. Check-in will open at 7:40 am and close at 8:20 am. The first round will begin at 8:40 am, and the tournament is scheduled to end at 6:00 pm. Please direct any questions to wangd AT darienps DOT org.
Question Set. Darien Spring will mirror the New Enterprising Writers’ Tournament (NEWT), a regular-plus difficulty set. More details about the set can be found here: viewtopic.php?t=25236. Darien Spring will use ACF rules with optional addendums on powermarks and negs. Eligible teams consist of players from a single school and are currently in a grade from 9th to 12th.
Format. The initial field cap for Darien Spring will be 24 teams. All teams are guaranteed 9 rounds of play. Format will be determined depending on number of teams.
Lunch. There will be bagels (and hopefully cookies) in the morning though teams should eat breakfast. Lunch break will take place during reseeding between prelims and playoffs and will last 45min. Pizza and drinks will be available if teams wish to buy them. Teams may also choose to bring lunch, and water bottle-filling stations exist throughout the building. Lunch will be eaten in the game rooms. Teams may also eat outside, where many benches are present.
Health. For health reasons, all persons must wear a mask while inside the building except when actively eating or drinking. All buzzer sets will be cleaned between rounds. Lunch and Health policies are subject to change. All sick persons should stay home.
Cost. Teams will cost as follows:
Each team: $80
Minimum fee per team: $20
Discounts are available as follows:
Functioning buzzer set: -$5
Staffer: -$40
As we are using electronic scoresheets, staffers need to bring a laptop and charger. Food will also be given to staffers as thanks for helping run Darien Spring. Teams new to Quiz Bowl or who have not played Quiz Bowl may receive a $20 discount.
Registration. Payment is expected the day of the tournament. Teams that drop on or after March 4th will pay a $40 cancellation fee. You may choose to pay in cash or a check written to Darien High School. Trophies will be given to the top three teams, and book prizes for top scorers in prelims.

Re: Darien Spring Tournament (3/5/2022, NEWT)
Hey all, here are some updates for the tourney:
Updates
2022-02-26: Darien Spring has 10 teams—it's happening!
2022-02-28: Registration closes on Thursday evening on March 3.
2022-02-28: The field is full! Further teams will be waitlisted
- Please sign up—Darien Spring Tournament needs at least ten teams to run!
- We'll make an announcement if we have ten teams near March 1st or hopefully sooner.
- Although a demand may arise later on, we currently do not need more buzzers.
- As there are not many moderators to pay, we are lowering the price of the first team to $80.
