Boilermaker Spring Novice at JMU (4/23/22)

Post by witta99 »

I am pleased to announce that the Lower Mid-Atlantic (MD/VA/NC/DC) site of 2022 Boilermaker Spring Novice will be held "at" James Madison University on Saturday, April 23, 2022. I (Ryan Ritter) will be the tournament director. Please direct any and all questions about this site to [email protected].

The tournament will take place online via Zoom and Buzzin.live. Please note that this differs from the original post. The opening meeting will begin at 8:45 and gameplay will begin at 9:00.

Registration
Please fill out this Google form to register for the tournament.

Registration will close on Thursday, April 21 at 5pm EST, and the field is tentatively capped at 12 teams.

Eligibility
This tournament is intended for players with no or very little quizbowl experience. Players with extensive quizbowl experience are encouraged to help staff.

You are not eligible for this tournament if you meet any of the following criteria:

• You have ever score more than 60 points per game at a quizbowl tournament (excluding middle school tournaments).
• You have made the playoffs at HSNCT or top 32 at NSC.
• You have played ICT (DI or DII) or ACF Nationals.

If you meet one or more of these criteria but believe you still fit the intended audience of this tournament, email [email protected] to request an eligibility exemption.

Fees
The fee structure for this tournament will be as follows:

• $80 per team
• -$30 for teams new to quizbowl (defined as having not played a tournament in the 2019-20 or 2020-21 seasons)
• -$15 per trained staffer with a functioning laptop

The minimum fee is $40 per team.

Payment:
You may pay through check, Venmo, or cash – further details will be given upon registration. Checks should be made out to “JMU Quiz Bowl.” If none of these work for you, please email us at [email protected] and we will work something out. Please reach out if you need an invoice.

After hearing feedback from several interested teams, we have made the decision to move this mirror online via Zoom and Buzzin.live. The original post has been edited accordingly.

Congratulations to William & Mary, who won a one-game final against Pitt to become the champions of this tournament! The stats can be found here .

Thank you so much to all of the teams, staffers, and organizers that made JMU's first collegiate tournament so memorable. We hope to see you in Harrisonburg sometime soon. I would especially like to thank all of the external staffers - Matt Weiner, Andrew Davison, Erie Mitchell, Kiran Rachamallu, Alex Howe, Alana Dickey, Yashu Tang, Veer Bhatt, Ellen Patchin, Nya McClenney, and Bradley Friedman - without whom it would not have been possible.
