Boilermaker Spring Novice at Ohio State (3/26/22)

Post by InspectorNorse »

Hello! I am pleased to announce that the Academic Team at Ohio State University will be hosting the Great Lakes mirror of Boilermaker Spring Novice on March 26, 2022. Further details about the set can be found here.

The tournament will take place at Enarson Classroom Building. There will be a brief opening meeting at 8:45 AM EST, and gameplay will begin at 9 AM EST. I, Sam Stahler, will be the tournament director leading up to the tournament, and Zac Bennett will be the tournament director on the day of the tournament. Please direct any questions about this site to me at [email protected].

Registration
To register for this tournament, email me at [email protected]. Please let me know how many teams you’re bringing, the rosters for those teams, and if you intend to bring any staffers and/or buzzers. I’ll try to invoice teams as soon as possible after they register. For now, I’m putting a cap of 16 teams for registration, though I’m flexible to change that if demand is high enough and we have enough staffers/rooms.

Rules and Eligibility
This tournament is intended for players with no or very little quiz bowl experience. Players with extensive quiz bowl experience are encouraged to help staff.

You are not eligible for this tournament if you meet any of the following criteria:
You have ever scored more than 60 points per game at a quiz bowl tournament (excluding middle school tournaments).
You have made the playoffs at HSNCT or top 32 at NSC.
You have played ICT (DI or DII) or ACF Nationals.

If you meet one or more of these criteria and would like to request an exemption, please email the set editors at [email protected]

Fees and Payment
$80 per team
-$30 for teams new to quiz bowl (defined as having not played a tournament in the 2019-20 or 2020-21 seasons)
-$15 per trained staffer with a functioning laptop
-$10 per working buzzer set with at least 8 working buzzer
-$10 per 200 miles traveled one-way. Distances decided via Google Maps
Minimum fee of $50

We can accept payment via cash or checks made out to “The Academic Team at Ohio State University”. Please email me if you have any questions or concerns regarding payment.

If there’s any info you need that I’ve missed, please let me know. Otherwise, we look forward to seeing you at OSU on March 26!
