DART Nationwide Invitational (4/16)

Post by oriley »

Northfield Quizbowl is pleased to announce that we will be hosting an online, nationwide high school mirror of DART II, a hard high school difficulty set. As the set is a bit easier than HSNCT, it is excellent prep for anyone planning to go to Atlanta this year.

Date
Saturday, April 16, 2022

Time
The opening meeting for all players and coaches will be at 8:45 AM central, with games beginning by 9 AM central. I estimate the tournament will end around 5 PM central, though this is dependent on how many rounds I can guarantee (hopefully ten), which is dependent on field size.

Platform
The tournament will take place online over Zoom and Buzzin.live.

Recordings
A number of games will be recorded at this tournament and released once the set clears later this year. All teams will be asked to fill out a waiver form indicating that we can record some of their games. This is optional. If a team does not wish to be recorded, that will not prohibit them from playing the tournament—we just won’t record any of their games.

For obvious reasons, we will prefer to upload games that are closer in score. Footage of more lopsided games will likely not be uploaded, but can still be used for compilations of “best buzzes” and so forth. Not all teams will play in recorded games.

Registration
To register to play this tournament, teams should fill out this form. Staffers should register by filling out this form.

The deadline to register to play this tournament is 10 PM Central on Tuesday, April 12, 2022. Teams who drop from the field after 10 PM Central on Tuesday, April 12 will be required to pay the full fee. Please drop before the registration deadline if you need to drop.

Staffer pay - moderators will be paid $50. Scorekeepers will be paid $30. Staffers who alternate between the two will be paid $40.

Fees
Base fee per team: $80
Staffer discount: -$40

Divisions
There will be two divisions: competitive and standard. The competitive division will be capped at 18 teams and possibly expand. The standard division will be capped at 18 teams.

Cheating
To prevent cheating, all players will be required to have both of their hands and their screen in view of a camera. This may be easily accomplished with a second camera angle, or by buzzing on a phone. For this reason, unfortunately we will not be able to permit any camera exemptions. Those who have issues with Internet who wish to play this tournament might inquire as to whether their team can meet in-person in one location, such as a school classroom.

A team meeting in the same in-person location need not have their screens on camera, but players must still keep both hands visible.

We have heard zero cheating accusations at all tournaments we have run, and we are eager to keep that streak intact.

Payment
I prefer PayPal, Venmo, or a check, but please reach out if you prefer a different payment method. My email is oriley1201 AT icloud DOT com.
