Bronco Bowl IV @ RBHS (9/24/2022)

Post by theripeplum »

Rancho Bernardo Quiz Bowl is thrilled to announce Bronco Bowl IV, a high school tournament using IS-213 and SANDS!

The tournament directors for Bronco Bowl IV are John Francis Dy, Shreya Singh, and Andrew Nucci. The advisor for this tournament is Ms. Emily Novet.

This tournament will be a closed tournament, so all teams must be comprised of students from the same school.

LOCATION:

This tournament will take place at Rancho Bernardo High School @ 13010 Paseo Lucido, San Diego, CA, 92128. A map of the campus can be found here.

DATE:

The tournament will take place on Saturday, September 24, 2022. Check-ins will begin at 8AM, with the first matches starting at about 9AM. We hope to end around 5PM, but promise nothing.

REGISTRATION:

Registration may be completed through this link.

More details about the tournament will be released closer to the tournament day.

All tournament fees should be paid via cash or check. Please make all checks payable to “RBHS Quiz Bowl.” Registration will be open until September 19, 2022. Teams registered after this date will have to pay a late fee.

There will be a soft field cap of 10 teams for JV and 10 teams for Varsity, with possibility of expansion depending on interest and staffing. Each team is allowed a maximum of 6 members. 4 members are allowed to play at a single time, with substitutions to be made at halftime.

ELIGIBILITY:

Varsity - all high school teams are eligible to compete in the varsity division.

Junior Varsity - All members of a high school team must meet the all following requirements:
- not scored 50+ ppg at a junior varsity/novice tournament
- not scored 30+ ppg at a varsity/HS-regs tournament
- not scored 10+ ppg at a national-level tournament (HSNCT, PACE NSC, IQBT NASAT, etc.)
Exceptions may be granted on a case-by-case basis

Middle school teams may compete in either division (though it is recommended they compete in JV).

FOOD:

For lunch, many eateries can be found within a 15-30 minute walk of the campus at Carmel Mountain (Panda Express, Rubio’s, Costco, Islands, etc.) Lunch will run longer than most tournaments, since RBHS isn’t as close to eateries as other schools are.

PRICING:

$85 per team
Discounts
-$5 for each fully-functional buzzer system (must have at least 4 buzzers working on each side)
-$5 for every team registered by August 31.
-$5 for every 50 miles traveled one-way, according to Google Maps
-$10 for each competent moderator that brings their own laptop (must be capable of editing Google Sheets)
-$40 for any team composed entirely of students that have never competed in a pyramidal quiz bowl tournament (Middle School or other)
Minimum Fee: $45

FORMAT:

Format will depend on the amount of teams registered.

We will be using NAQT rules, with the exception of NAQT's timing rules (matches will be run as two untimed halves of 10 tossups each). In addition, ACF rules regarding timing will be used (5/5/5).

Should there not be enough buzzer systems for the tournament, matches will be held using buzzin.live. Should a game be played in this manner, please note that a player who buzzes in will have to wait to be recognized before giving an answer.

This tournament will be an NAQT HSNCT qualifier, with the top 15% of teams in the varsity division becoming eligible for HSNCT.

INQUIRIES:

All questions, comments, concerns, and inquiries can be sent to [email protected].

MISCONDUCT:

This goes without saying, but harassment and/or cheating will not be tolerated at this tournament. Everyone involved will be expected to adhere to the PACE code of conduct, found here. Any reports of cheating and/or harassment should be immediately reported to staff at the tournament, or can be sent through this misconduct form.

We hope to see you there!

Updates: We have one spot left in both JV and Varsity divisions. To discourage teams from dropping so close to the tournament, teams that drop will have still have to pay a $40 fee. Schools that aren't able to pay the day of the tournament will incur a $10 late fee on top of what they owe.
