2023 Fremd Spring Invitational(4/8, DART III)

Post by Omara007 »

William Fremd Scholastic Bowl is thrilled to announce the 2023 Fremd Spring Invitational. The tournament will be held at William Fremd High School in Palatine, Illinois on April 8th, 2023.

Location & Logistics:
Fremd High School is at 1000 S Quentin Rd, Palatine, IL. Teams can park in the main parking lot at the front of the school and enter the school through the main entrance (Door 1). Check-in will open at 7:30 and close at 8:20, with the first round starting around 8:45. We expect the tournament to wrap up at approximately 5:00(barring the need for tiebreakers/a final).

Question Set:
This tournament will be run on DART III, the newest iteration of the highly-rated High School Hard set written by Detroit Country Day. Information on the set & the distribution can be found here.

The difficulty & distribution of the DART III set make it great practice for any team looking to prepare for a national tournament (Ex: NAQT SSNCT & HSNCT, PACE NSC). However, teams that are just looking for a fun and challenging tournament are still encouraged to attend!

Format:
Games will use the ACF Ruleset with the addition of both the powermark and neg addendums. There will not be bouncebacks. Teams will be guaranteed at least 9 games, and depending on the number of teams that register, may play more. The tournament has a soft cap of 18 teams, but the field can easily be expanded with significant interest. Schools can sign up a maximum of 3 teams, but that number is subject to change if the field expands.

Lunch:
Any teams that want food or drinks can do so with the pizza and drinks Google form attached below. Full pizza pies will be available to order for $25(feeds 4-5), soda boxes for $12 (12 cans), and packets of bottled water for $10 (24 bottles). Other than pre-ordered food/drinks and vending machines, there will not be food for sale on the day of the tournament.

Pricing/Discounts:
$90 per team (6 player max; 4 playing at a time)
-$5 for every working buzzer system
-$15 per staffer

There is a $60 per team fee minimum.

As this tournament is run using online scoresheets and packets, staffers need to bring a functioning laptop and charger. Staffers will get lunch free of charge.

Payment:
Teams can pay with cash or by check. Make checks payable to:
“FHS Scholastic Bowl”

Registration:
Teams wishing to compete at this tournament can sign up here .
Teams wishing to buy pizza and drinks for lunch can do so here.
The current field for this tournament is available here.

We're very happy to announce that the Fremd Spring Invitational is now a PACE platinum qualifier tournament, meaning that 25% of the field will qualify for the 2023 PACE NSC in June.

Additionally, to ensure we can get logistics sorted out, registration for this tournament will close at 11:59 p.m. on Monday, April 3rd. If you have any last-minute concerns or want to register after the Monday deadline, please email us at [email protected] and we will see what we can accommodate.
