Canadian Novice @ McGill (Canadian High School Mirror)

Post by MordecaiRickles »

I am pleased to announce that McGill University will be hosting a high school mirror of 2023 Canadian Novice on May 22nd, 2023. This tournament will be co-directed by Joe Su, with Nicolas Edwards and Liz Van Oorschot handling logistics. Any queries can be directed to mcgill DOT triviaclub AT ssmu DOT ca. Information regarding the set can be found here.

The tournament will take place online via Zoom, with buzzes courtesy of buzzin.live. We will begin an opening meeting at 9:45 A.M., with gameplay starting at 10:00 A.M.

Eligibility
This is a closed tournament, meaning that only current (or graduating) high school students may play and must play with those from the same institution. This mirror will be restricted to Canadian high schools

This tournament is intended for those less experienced in quizbowl; you are ineligible if any of the follow apply to you:
  • You have ever scored more than 40 points per game at a quizbowl tournament (excluding middle school tournaments).
  • You have made the playoffs at HSNCT or top 32 at NSC.
  • You have played on a team that qualified for or played at ICT (DI or DII) or ACF Nationals.
If you think you are the intended audience for this tournament but break one of the eligibility rules, you may apply for an exemption by contacting the editors at [email protected], (cc the McGill club).

Please note that these eligibility requirements are stricter than the original eligibility requirements for this tournament. We also reserve the right to
restrict anyone from playing based on their prior performances.

Registration and Fees
Register by sending an email to mcgill DOT triviaclub AT ssmu DOT ca to register your institution’s team(s).

The tentative field cap is 12 teams.

Please register by 11:59 P.M., Thursday, May 18th, 2023.

This tournament will cost $80 CAD per team, or $25/player for shorthanded teams.
External staff not affiliated with a team will receive $20 CAD.

Payment can be made to the McGill Trivia Club by e-transferring mcgill DOT triviaclub AT ssmu DOT ca. Please indicate that payment is for Canadian Novice in your e-transfer message. Payment is due by the May 18th registration deadline. If this poses a problem, please contact McGill in advance.
