Re: Kentucky 2023-24
I hope the new school year is finding each of you well and ready to get back to class and competition. I wanted to go on a get this reminder out to coaches that have played in the past, and hopefully a few new participants. We are planning the 2024 iteration of the Fleming County Academic Tournament for January 6, 2024 at Fleming County High School.
The format will be the same as FCAT '23. Teams will play three pool matches in the morning that will be used to seed the afternoon's playoff rounds.
We plan to use IceQuickle 3 as our competition set and utilize a traditional quick recall format for matches.
As in the past we intend to have a varsity and "B" division. The "B" division is not necessarily JV but may consist of teams of non-starting players. In the interest of competitive balance we may move teams from one field to the other...i.e. an exceptionally strong "B" team may play in the varsity division.
We do ask that ALL teams bring a WORKING buzzer system and an official (moderators or someone that can keep score).
We have a hard cap of 32 teams.
Entry fees for the tournament are $90 for the first team from a school. Second teams from the same school may enter at a rate of $45. At this time, we will limit each school to no more than two entries. We may open things up to more teams from a school as space permits.
Interest parties please contact FCHS Academic Team Coach Kent Grannis at [email protected]

Re: Kentucky 2023-24
Good Morning! I (Beckett Gilmore) of Owensboro and Nathan Mehaffy of Western Hills have created a public, formulated ranking system for Quick Recall teams in Kentucky, specifically for KAAC competition. I'm going to post the link here. This intends to better prepare teams for their opponents across the state, since we are only a little less than a week away from State. The link is below:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... 2071617202
This formula takes a team's points in wins, combined with half of the winning points of a team they lost to, to create a points per game metric. For example, if the website shows that County A had a winning score of 46, County B would have an inserted formula score of 23 for that match. While this may not be totally accurate, it rewards teams for playing a more difficult schedule, and works out when adjusting a team's SOS (strength of schedule) and SOV (strength of victory).
SOS = Strength of Schedule, the combined winning percentage of opposing teams that a team has played.
SOV = Strength of Victory, the combined winning percentage of opposing teams that a team has defeated.
We calculate the raw score using a team's points/game, added with e^SOS and e^SOV, given that SOS and SOV are values between 0 and 1.
The adjusted SOS is the average raw score of opposing teams that a team has played.
The adjusted SOV is the average raw score of opposing teams that a team has defeated, multiplied by a factor of 3/2.
Finally, the overall formula score is the sum of a team's raw score, 1/6 of a team's adjusted SOS, and 1/3 of a team's adjusted SOV.
Thanks!
