On Cinema at the Buzzer online (September 2023)

Post by women, fire and dangerous things »

I'd like to run an online mirror of my film side event On Cinema at the Buzzer in September. If you'd be interested in playing, please vote in the poll for which dates would work for you!

Based on the poll results, I'll be hosting this tournament on September 16. Details to come, but for now, here's an unofficial team formation spreadsheet.

I am looking for some teammates for this. I don't know much about artistic film, though.

Some more details: this will start at 12:30 PM Eastern on Saturday, September 16, and should run 3 or 4 hours. The unofficial team formation sheet is linked above, but teams should email [email protected] to officially register; it will cost $10 a player. I'll set a field cap of 8 teams for now. So far, I'm the only staffer signed up, so I'd love to have more volunteers soon - staffers will be paid $20.

I'm still looking for more staffers, who will earn $20 and my eternal gratitude. In particular, there's demand for more than the current field cap of 8 teams, so more staffers might let me expand that. (On that note - it looks like there are a few fully-formed teams that haven't registered yet - if you want to guarantee a spot in the field, I recommend registering soon!)

If anyone wants to swoop me up on their team, I'd love to play this, but if not, I'm also happy to staff.

We now have enough staff and interest for a 12-team tournament! I'll assign free agents to teams on Wednesday, so if you've got teammate preferences, try to solidify your lineups by then.

The logistics email has been sent to team contacts. There are still several teams with open slots, so it's not too late for any last-minute free agents!

Congratulations to Gerwig and the Angry Inch (Cliff Galiher, Hans von Walter, Adam Waldowski, Neil Davis) who cleared the field with an undefeated record to win the tournament! Uncle Boomer Who Can't Recall His Past Lives (Mike Cheyne, Vivian Malouf, Evan Suttell, Victor Pavao) took second by winning the second-place game against The Short Bad Saturday (Joe Crowther, Matthew Bliss, Abby Akarapongpiskadi, James Coe). Stats are here (note that the order in the combined stats doesn't reflect the final standings exactly, since it includes prelim games against non-common opponents that were not carried over).
