Del Norte Quizbowl is proud to announce that our seventh annual Del Norte Edgehog Tournament (DNE VII) will be held on January 20th, 2024.
This tournament will be co-directed by Conner Feng, Aditi Bandaru, and Jack Bruvold.

QUESTIONS:
The Varsity division will play the HS regs+ difficulty set CREEK. The Junior Varsity division will be played on the NAQT set IS-223A.

LOCATION:
DNE will take place at Del Norte High School (16601 Nighthawk Ln, San Diego, CA 92127). Check-in will be held in room L117, and play will occur in the L building.

SCHEDULE:
Check-in will begin at 8:00, and rounds will start at 9:00. There will be an all-teams meeting around 8:45, where brackets will be shared. The tournament should end around 5-6 pm.

FORMAT:
This is a closed tournament, meaning that a team must only consist of players from the same school.

Teams can have up to six players per team, although only four can play at any given point in a match. Substitutions can be made at halftime in each game.

The tournament will adhere to the official NAQT rules with the exception that each round will run as two untimed halves with ten tossup-bonus cycles in each half. Computational math questions will be skipped.


ELIGIBILITY:
The Varsity division will be open to all Southern California high school teams. The Junior Varsity division will be open only to Southern California teams with no players who have scored 50+ PPG in the JV division of a previous tournament, 30+ PPG in a Varsity division, or 10+ PPG at a national-level high school tournament. Eligibility is subject to the tournament director’s discretion.
We recommend that experienced high school teams preparing to compete in a national tournament register for the Varsity division, whereas novice high school teams or middle school teams should play in the Junior Varsity division.

PRICING:
$90 per team
Payment must be provided by cash or check before the tournament begins. Any checks should be made out to DNHS ASB, with Quizbowl in the subject line. Teams can request an invoice through the NAQT registration system or by emailing [email protected].

ADDITIONAL DISCOUNTS:
- $10 per competent staffer that provides their own device
- $5 per working buzzer system (for at least eight players)
- $5 per 50 miles traveled one-way per team, calculated using Google Maps from your school to Del Norte.
- $40 for each team entirely made up of students who have not played a Quiz Bowl tournament in the past two seasons
- $5 for each team registered before January 6th

REGISTRATION:
We will be using the NAQT registration system, linked here, for both the Varsity and JV divisions.
Registration will end on Wednesday, January 17th. Teams that try to register after this date will have to pay a late fee of $10. Any teams that drop less than 24 hours before the tournament starts will still be required to pay fees.
There will be a soft 24-team field cap for the tournament, at 12 for Varsity and 12 for Junior Varsity.

FOOD:
There are two main shopping plazas located in the vicinity of Del Norte: 4S Ranch Commons (20 minute walk one-way) with food options such as Panera, Wendy’s, Chipotle, Joyee’s (Chinese cuisine), or Mendocino Farms (sandwiches), and Del Sur Town Center (10 minute walk) with food options such as Board & Brew, Chick fil A, or Burger Lounge.

MISCONDUCT:
Misconduct, including harassment and cheating, will not be tolerated at this tournament — all players, coaches, and spectators will be held to the PACE code of conduct. Any incidents should be immediately reported to staff or through the anonymous misconduct form.
