2024 DMA at Belmont University (3/23/2024)

Post by BelmontQBT1890 »

Belmont University is excited to announce that we will be hosting a mirror site of Daniel Ma's Academic (DMA), a "1.5 dot" difficulty college tournament on March 23, 2024.

Check-in will begin at 8:00 AM on the day of the tournament. The opening meeting will begin at 8:40 AM, and the first round will begin at 9:00 AM.

Location:
The tournament will take place in the Janet Ayers Academic Center on Belmont's campus. The address for the JAAC is 1501 Wedgewood Ave, Nashville, TN 37212. Teams coming from the interstate will turn from Wedgewood Ave onto 15th Ave S, and take the first exit of the roundabout. The entrance to the building will be on the right, and the building has a parking garage directly underneath it. Signage will be posted to show drivers where to go. Elevators can be taken directly from the garage into the building. Parking is free, visitors simply need to scan a QR code to register their vehicles.

Questions:
This tournament will be run using Daniel Ma's Academic (DMA), an easy college set intended to be of a difficulty between ACF Fall and ACF Winter, especially with easier answerlines and easy parts than Winter.
More information about DMA can be found at viewtopic.php?t=26824

Format:
Each packet will consist of 20 power-marked tossups and 20 bonuses, as well as extra questions and tiebreakers. Each tossup will be 5-6 lines long and each full bonus at most 8 lines.

Fees:
The fees for the tournament are as follows:
Base fee: $120
-$10 discount per working buzzer system
-$20 discount for teams that provide an experienced moderator/scorekeeper with laptop.
-$10 discount per 200 miles traveled one way as determined by Google Maps.
- $20 new to quiz bowl discount: applicable if your team has not yet attended a collegiate quiz bowl tournament
Minimum fee per team: $60

Registration:
This tournament is open to collegiate teams comprising students from the same post-secondary institution. Any students eligible under the ACF eligibility rules are welcome to participate! Teams can register for this tournament by emailing [email protected]. When registering, please let us know how many teams, buzzers, and moderators you expect to bring, and tentative rosters. The initial field cap is set at 16 teams. The last day to register for this tournament will be March 20th, 2024, but please try to register before March 15th, 2024.
Note: Please be sure that you have not played or staffed for the high school version of this set.

Rules:
This tournament will follow ACF’s official gameplay rules. We also will require all teams to follow the PACE code of conduct, which we ask teams to briefly review before the tournament. Belmont University is committed to ensuring that every participant feels as safe and welcome as possible at this tournament!

Payment:
Schools may pay using cash, personal checks, or school checks. We prefer payment the day of, but checks can be sent ahead of time (contact us for more information). All teams must pay by March 23rd, 2024. Please contact us if you have any questions about a particular form of payment. All checks must be made out to "Belmont University" with "Spring Quiz Bowl Tournament" or something similar as the memo.

Team Size:
Teams will consist of up to four active players and up to two substitutes for a total of six players per team. Players may not transfer between teams. There is a halftime substitution opportunity in each game. Teams may play shorthanded, with fewer than four players, but there is no discount for doing so.

Any questions about the tournament can be directed to me at [email protected].
