You can watch their games via live scoresheets through NAQT. Good luck to them and I hope to see more Arkansas teams register in the future, its super fun and competitive and the quality is top notch.
https://www.naqt.com/tournament/team.jsp?team_id=574336
And to finish off the first day of prelims Batesville goes 4-3 in the afternoon rounds with 3 games to go. Batesville has tied their overall wins last year where they went 4-6 and are facing the possibility of making playoffs if they win 2/3 matches tomorrow. Alexander Tenace (7/44/1) with a 69.23 average also has the possibility of receiving the all star award if he can maintain his tossup averages and finish in the top 40 for prelim individual stats. If so he would join Claire Bishop of Mountain View and Shawn Cafferty Lueck of Russellville as the only Arkansas players to make HSNCT all stars in recent history, and if they made playoffs they would join Russellville as the only Arkansas team to make HSNCT playoffs in recent history

Exciting results so far, tomorrow we will see how far they can make it.
Alex Tenace finishes #38 in individual PP20TUH (should've been #37, #1 is a random player who got put in for one tossup and tenned it for a fluke 200 PP20) and will be an HSNCT allstar.

Welp, Quiz Bowl is over for teams in Arkansas, with Batesville finishing 5-5 and outside of the playoff bubble. Time for some shoutouts to players through this season who deserve them.

Alexander Tenace claims the unofficial Arkansas Quiz Bowl Player Of The Year award that I just made up. He repped Arkansas well, finishing prelims as a top 40 scorer and taking home HSNCT Allstar honors. Good on you.

In the same vein, congrats to Batesville High School for a 5-5 showing at HSNCT. Y'all showed that teams from the Natural State can show up and compete at national events.

Sticking with the nats vein of things, congrats to Siddharth Sridharan for finishing in the top ½ of players in the IPNCT. This guy's a sophomore and competed with some of the best players in the country, being a top 25% STEM player in the field as well.

Alexander Reyes of LR Catholic was the 6A MVP as a freshman and is one of the best young players in the state. I expect his Rockets to challenge the Russellville dynasty over the next few years.

See y'all next season

Since 2A is my area of expertise being a Hazen player, I'll give my way too early 2A top 5.

1. Haas Hall Bentonville: Anyone arguing this point is bold, to say the least. HHA BV has won the last 4 2A titles and retains Aaroosh Davalbhakta, Shruthi Nannapenini, and Reese Smith, while promoting Arjun Paradkar and Shaan Prasanna to their HS team next season. This team seemingly spontaneously generates talented players from everywhere (of course, being located in AR's most affluent area and hiring the state's best teachers helps)

2. Conway Christian: After missing the top 4 this past year, the Eagles reload with 2024 JH All-Star Charles Dong playing alongside 2023 JH 2A MVP Nathan Hill. As far as experience goes, this team should be the best suited to take down HHA B'Ville, although it's unlikely that even this team does.

3. Hazen: Biased? Absolutely. Hypothetically, if I would have played state this past year and retained my TU/game average from regionals, I would have been the 2A HPP with 12.17 tu/gm. Next season, I'll have a year of study & classroom learning under my belt and will be primed to improve both my own TU/gm average and my team's placement. My teammates should also be gaining experience and knowledge.

4. Haas Hall Rogers: Though not as strong as their Bentonville brothers, HHA Rogers should be a good team this coming year. They return 2024 2A All-Tournament selection Kaitlyn Kuehn and move up 2024 JH All-Star Liam Zimmerman alongside 2024 JH All-2A-West selection Grayson Clark. This core should win this team some games & possibly get them into the 2A semifinals.

5. Life Way Christian: After being thoroughly dominated over the past 4 years by Haas Hall Bentonville (4-0 HHA BV in finals games), the Warriors look to their younger players for a leader amidst the graduation of 4x 2A MVP Immanuel Peter. The leading candidate is 2023 JH 2A MVP Connor Nowlin, while 2024 JH All-Star Kyle Fields will be the second scorer. Sports specialist Zane Selby brings an interesting side to this squad.

(Only one true public school in the T5 is kinda sad tbh)

I need to do this with 6A!! Especially since there’s likely a change in teams with the ones dropping

Following Michael’s idea with ranking teams, I figured why not give it a shot with 6A. To preface, I am not the most knowledgeable more than likely, but I think I can hit the general rankings based off what I know and have seen. Also, from the rumors I’ve heard, Greene County Tech, Searcy, and Jacksonville are all moving down to 5A, and Jonesboro High School is moving from 7A to 6A. This change will be reflected in the rankings.

I will not be giving in depth descriptions as I do not know as much about each team individually as Michael did for 2A.

1: Russellville—no words.

2: Little Rock Catholic—runner ups and can only get better with their team

3: Greenwood—I mean they were very good at state and I’m not exactly sure who they are losing, but I know they always seem to be a great team

4: Benton—I do know they are losing their best player, but they always seem to compete.

5: Marion—bias? Yes. But also I do believe Marion is good, and better than what most expect. We competed with Catholic and Benton last year so I do not see it as a stretch with us at 5

6: Pulaski Academy—they didn’t make state year. But I assume it was because of some unfortunate circumstances. I still think they are a good team.

7: Greenbriar—One of, if not the most underrated team in 6A.

8: Jonesboro High School—not really sure how they compete against the teams above, but should be good enough to compete against the rest of 6A.

Nice. I have...

1. Russellville - honestly, it could be Catholic. But it's Russellville right now since their team is larger and has more experience as a whole

2. Catholic - I can't really say much about Catholic, since we really like to keep private. But I will say, we might have a secret weapon...

3. Greenwood - consistently good. Even after losing senior and all-tournament team player John Wagner, they'll probably end up near the top again.

4. Marion - probably the second toughest team Catholic played during the state tournament after Greenwood (we don't talk about the championship). I expect y'all to be good again lol

5. Benton - I think losing Owen Schwartz is going to be a major blow this season, which might very possibly knock them out of the final four this season. Still a good team, but likely not as good as before.

6. Greenbrier - I agree, probably the most underrated 6A team. I really wouldn't be shocked if they end up in the final four this season.

7. Jonesboro - I know nothing

8. Pulaski Academy (PA) - I can tell you how they missed State last season. NOTE: I wasn't here, so I heard about this from Nick. During regionals, Catholic and PA both went 1-3. So the judges had to look to what team averaged more points per game to see who would be 4th place. Catholic beat PA in average points per game by 4 or 5. So....that's how they missed, Aside from that, idk much about PA's team, but I believe the teams above will be better this season.

Greenwood & Benton are both moving very good JH players to HS next year; Greenwood moves a 12.6 ppg scorer in Dexter Coston, and Benton moves a 12.57 ppg scorer in Thomas Gilliand. Keep in mind that both schools are in very populated areas and may get good school choice players too.

I guess why not, I'll also make one for 7A:

1. Little Rock Central - I mean I don't really know what to say here. We have number 2 player in the state (Jeff) and then myself (7A MVP averaging 16.33 tossups per game). Even at camp back in November, we had the same results as I came out at first place (210 tossups in 10 games) and then Jeffrey (205 tossups in 10 games) followed in behind me at second place in individual rankings and both of our teams also came out at first and second respectively (having to beat Hayden Daniel's and Alexander Tenace's teams respectively as well). Along with the two of us, we also have a few players on our team that are great role players as well. Also, we might possibly have a secret weapon on our team as well next year.

2. Fort Smith Southside - Yeah this is the most obvious pick to give us a run for our money. Justin is just too good on the buzzer and then he also has some good players on his team that also come in clutch (speaking from experience of playing them in the junior high level). The team is mostly going to be led by the rising juniors. Other than that, I don't really have anything else to say about this team.

3. Fayetteville - I have this team at third despite their outcome at state this year because they have a top 10 player in the state on their team as a senior this upcoming year as well as a junior who is really good at the math as well. I don't really know much else about this team.

4. Bryant - This team is always an equal mix of stats but mostly led by Christian Nash, who's always really quick on the buzzer when he's confident. They also have some good upcoming seniors as well as upcoming juniors.

5. Bentonville High (not Bentonville West) - They have some really good upcoming juniors whom I played last year in junior high finals (which we only won by 5). Those guys are really well split on the buzzer but Andres really did good. They also have a guy who is also really good at math and beat me to it then and there.

6. Cabot - I'll put this up here because why not, I mean Maddox is really good and then also has some other good team mates as well.

7. Possibly Conway - Conway is either a make or break in my opinion especially after how they bailed out of state because Ellie Feng (their best player) couldn't make it. They have some good talent but I really don't know how far it'll take them.

7. Other 7th rank would be ASMSA - I think that Jacob Lewis's move from Clinton to ASMSA might be a game changer for them since this past year they were one of the teams we ran 525 against so maybe Jacob can bring some heat to the team.

From here this is just random rankings based on their junior high teams from when I played them or whenever I played them this past year in senior high:

8. Rogers High School

9. North Little Rock

10. Bentonville West

dropping 525 on an actual quizbowl team should be considered a war crime LMAO. as for the rankings, I like Cabot over Bentonville next year, but BVille does have a solid player moving up in Sami Sazci who is a pretty good math guy. Cabot should be really good with Mason True and Maddox Lane coming in

DarthSidd wrote: Sun Jun 02, 2024 10:01 pm I guess why not, I'll also make one for 7A:

No Rogers Heritage?
Heritage loses 14 ppg scorer Peyton Wimberley & doesn't really have any "next up" players in JH or HS, unless they can get some of the Kirksey kids in the coming years

Jacksonmcginnis53 wrote: Sat Jun 01, 2024 8:29 pm Following Michael’s idea with ranking teams, I figured why not give it a shot with 6A.

I might be stupid, but if you weren’t at the Regional with Catholic, how did you qualify for HS All Stars? Am I missing something?
he was promoted to the HS team and played state with Catholic, giving him his 9.0 ppg average and the hs allstar invite

If these conference realignments are correct, and AGQBA is based off football conferences--which I don't know how I feel about that tbh--here is the speculated conferences for 6A and 7A (just by conference not division)

7A:
Little Rock Central
Bryant
Cabot
Conway
Fort Smith Northside
Pulaski Academy (6A->7A)
Little Rock Christian (6A->7A)
Little Rock Southwest?
Bentonville
Bentonville West
Fayetteville
Har-Ber
Springdale
Rogers
Rogers Heritage

6A:
Marion
Little Rock Catholic
Russellville
Greenwood
Fort Smith Southside (7A->6A)
Shiloh Springs (5A->6A)
Sylvan Hills
Mountain Home
Sheridan (do they have a team?)
Benton
El Dorado
Lake Hamilton
Van Buren
Academies at Jonesboro High School (7A->6A)
Siloam Springs (Do they have a team?)
Jackson McGinnis-Marion HS (890 points/7.4 PPG)
Marion HSQB Captain (2024-2025)

AGQBA is loosely based off football conferences. From what ive seen in the past they start with football conferences and then make slight changes here and there because of course they dont have the same field of schools. There have been many instances of Quiz Bowl conferences differing. However, if you are concerned about any hindrances of competition and fairness you could always shoot them an email with your evidence backed thoughts.

If Shiloh Christian moves to 6A, it is 100% based upon football, bc Shiloh (private school rules) would not have the CEF points needed to move up in quiz bowl, but they do have the CEF points to move up in football due to back to back state championship appearances.

We'll have to see. However, the team's future really depends on whether or not the rising sophomores at our school can perform well in senior high quiz bowl.
