If this is true (which I am not sure of, I'm taking this with a grain of salt until AGQBA conferences come out), HHA Bentonville pretty clearly becomes the favorite in 3A. I'm not sure there's any opposition to that. Who becomes the favorite in 2A if Haas Hall Bentonville moves to 3A?

some interesting moves going on if any of this has credence to it lmao.

Russellville vs FS Southside would be can't miss television tho.

whenever the conferences are revealed i'll make sure to make the proper edits to my polls and stuff so they're accurate lol, especially bc a lot of the predictions involve those two teams making the finals

DanielKTu wrote: Thu Aug 08, 2024 9:32 am Hi, I've started a Quiz Bowl Program at Gentry in 4A. I hope to one day compete at the high school level, but there wasn't interest so I'm starting with the junior high level and working our way up. Last year we went 0-6 at Regionals, but the kids like it and want to get better.

Does anyone have any good junior high study materials they'd be willing to share or point me to? Much appreciated.

On a personal note, it's good to see Arkansas Quiz Bowl alive and thriving. A long time ago I was Mr. Adams first captain at FS Southside in my senior year. We didn't break through in AGQBA but we did manage to win a state Science Bowl that year. It's also good to hear another former captain it Matthew McKnight is involved.
QBreader - Use difficulties 1 or 2 for junior high tournaments.
The Quizbowl Packet Archive - Use Novice sets for junior high tournaments.
NAQT Podcasts - Listening to the MSNCT podcasts should help with junior high questions and tournaments.
Qwiz5 guides and videos - The Qwiz5 guides are very easy to read and understand, and they provide entertaining videos to watch and learn from as well! They also link to other resources after the guides which help learn even more about a topic. With the digestibility of these guides, I can genuinely read 3-5 of them per day and retain most of the information.
Writing tossups is also a great way to get better! They don't have to be perfectly formatted or written, but nothing helps learning like writing the content into your own game.

Best of luck with your Gentry team, and I hope to see them competing for titles in 4A very soon!

Out of my 3 years at playing junior high, there’s many study materials that I came across and utilized. Out of the many, these definitely helped me the most with junior high. Here they are:

SCOP Novice packets from hsquizbowl. They contain some nice information that can help with answering a question at the beginning.

Next is protobowl. I would recommend all the beginners to do protobowl middle school quiz bowl in a private lobby. Protobowl also provides some nice SCOP Novice questions that your team can make use of outside of practices.

Jetpunks are useful as well. Jetpunk is definitely one of my personal favorite practice materials, especially with lightning round practice. I was able to get down the periodic table and world capitals in about 2 hours. They have these short, fun quizzes that are useful when it comes to lightning round.

I would also recommend qbreader like Michael said once the students get bored of grinding protobowl.

Im also glad to hear that you played under Mr. Adam’s at Southside. They’re a very great team and Mr. Adams is a great coach!

Hello! All the above stuff mentioned is definitely what I would recommend as well.

If you are able to, I'd recommend getting a copy of tournament question sets of the tournaments you attend as well. That way you can get a fresh set of questions, are able to see full questions on ones that were buzzed in on half way through, and are able to review with your team and see what you all could work on.

Every single time I go against Sidd I always forget how dominating he is 😭 the only game I've ever seem him slightly struggle on was at qb camp, and that's because Jeffery was on my team, and we still ended up losing 💀 (I did answer a single question tho so 💪💪)

Sorry if it seems too much ya'll. It's just I prefer underhyping myself more than overhyping myself. I feel that it's better to be done than said, so I don't like bragging about myself. Also, I remember that match very clearly Jacob. I wasn't really worried about winning or losing it since it didn't count towards the individual scoring, but it was a great game from both sides! I do have to say, I'm very excited to play the ASMSA team this year because we didn't play them too much last year and they were usually missing their best player or two every time.

As for the finals, yeah, I definitely got higher stats because Jeffrey was at science bowl nationals. I was hoping that Peyton wouldn't beat me because he was right behind me going into finals (my average was 16.00 and his was 14.60). But I still feel I could've done better at state, especially in the second half of the day, which is where my worst stats came. However, I did end up playing the second half of the day with food poisoning so i guess that's an excuse for me. But my stats only got saved because of my 22 tossup game against Cabot.

Nah it's not too much. It shows class, really. Your posts through this thread have been very respectful and highlighting the skill of other players such as Alex Tenace, the entire Russellville team, myself, Justin Han, Jacob, Jeffrey, and others. It's just unnerving to see such a dominant player with that kind of humility lol.

Honestly I get that tho, I don't like to brag about myself either so when I'm talking about stuff I've done people always tell me I should be more confident in what I've done you know😭. This year ive actually been learning more about how high school quiz bowl works, rather than just jumping into it like I did at qb camp last year, so I'm going to be a lot more stronger as a player than I was before lol, so I'll be excited to see you there. My average is actually a little messed up too at state, I had a reallyyyyy bad game against Arkadelphia, so my average would've been around a 16 without it.

Honestly, if the people in the ASMSA quiz bowl team study and get envirgorated to study (which I'm hoping I can help with), then I'm sure that we can be a strong contender at 7a events and tournaments. I can't wait to play against yall honestly lol.

Also ngl the first time I met you is what really inspired me to start pushing forward in my academics and quiz bowl so I blame you for me being good now 💀

Hopefully 🙏 once I actually meet my teacher, I'm going to atleast try and put in my suggestions for the team and see what I can do to help us all improve, but at the end of the day it depends on the team. I'm fully ready to help everyone improve.

As the season quickly approaches (39 days until Russellville Preseason Invitational), I would like to once again encourage anyone here who hasn't to vote in the polls, which can be found earlier in the thread!

Also, when your teams meet, feel free to relay the information about mine and Jackson's stat sheets (Jackson runs the individual player sheet and I run the team statistics) to your coaches!

Same to you, and I hope your Gentry coaching tenure goes well from here. Hopefully y'all pull in some interest in the HS division and end up competing there. If that happens, there is no shortage of regular season competition to enjoy, as NWA is always a spot for a lot of competitions (and I'm sure your former coach wouldn't mind seeing you coaching in one of his tournaments about 90 minutes south  ). As for JH, Life Way Christian in Centerton (basically just West Bentonville) is holding a Junior High tournament on January 11!

The AGQBA's site host meeting is on December 13. While I'm not sure when actual conferences are decided, I assume they'll be released sometime around then (probably December 16 or so if I had to guess) Until then, any rankings I do will be based upon the current classifications, as will be the organization of my statistics.

Yeah, the original plan was to host it at Central LR but we couldn't get permission so we're using Southwest High School.

Ah, I see. The idea of running it in central Arkansas is definitely best, makes it more accessible than tournaments in FS or NWA

(edited because I misread something somewhere and thought that FOQB was in Fort Smith last season)

that just means maybe LRC will have some actual competition atop the 7A, lol

idk who you get information from, but can they confirm or disprove a Haas Bentonville move to 3A?

I remember hearing about how you mangled our B team, but come to think of it, LRC never did play our A team.
Exciting times for sure.
