DART IV at Johns Hopkins (4/26/2025) - High School Division

Post by Nurostep »

I am pleased to announce that the Johns Hopkins University Quizbowl Team will be hosting a two division tournament (one high school, one college) using DART IV (an HSNCT-level set) on April 26th, 2025.

Logistics
The tournament will be held in person at Johns Hopkins, street address at 3400 North Charles Street, Baltimore, MD 21218. Room locations will be updated closer to the tournament date. Parking is available at the South Garage at a flat rate of $9 for the day, and a map of campus can be found here.

This is a closed tournament for high school teams, meaning all players on a team must attend the same high school. A maximum of 6 players can be on a single team, with a maximum of four in at a time. If possible, we recommend only four players on each team to maximize playing time for all members. The tournament will follow typical ACF gameplay rules.

To register for the tournament, please use this Google Form. The field will initially be capped at 16 teams in the high school division.

Payment and Discounts
Base fee: $90/team
Staff discount: -$15/approved staffer with laptop (limit of two per team)
Buzzer discount: -$5/working buzzer set
Shorthanded discount (1 or 2 person team): -$30
**Note: the shorthanded discount can only be applied to one team from each school.

Minimum fee: $55/team

Payment can be made the day of the tournament either by cash, check, PayPal, or Zelle. Please make checks out to either "Derrick Liu" or "Johns Hopkins University."

Important Dates
All deadlines are set at 11:59 Eastern on the dates listed.
Monday, April 21st: Tournament registration deadline
Thursday, April 24th: Team drop deadline (past this point, teams that drop will be expected to pay the full tournament fee) and roster submission deadline

Regarding multiple team registration, schools will be allowed up to 3 teams, with additional teams placed on the waitlist until April 21st, after which any additional teams will be placed in the field assuming there are still additional spots.

The field is currently capped at 12 teams. If we have enough staff and room availability, we will consider expanding the field past the cap. If there is not enough interest in either the college or high school division, we will contact the teams and consider combining the two

Field (5/12) - Teams/Staffers/Buzzers:
McLean (2/0/0)
Thomas Jefferson Science & Tech (2/0/0)
Quince Orchard (1/0/0)
